I am just glad I will be dead by the time all these young vets are my age and wandering the streets, homeless, with mental illnesses.

We'll soon be seeing those headlines again:

The red state / new republic type boards will kick you off for these kinds of questions.

Tried that actually. Really what I wanted to do was just see how far the discussion would go. Maybe some good facts in there, or reasoning. Always worth a shot.

That pissed them off. I think it got in the way of their affirmation therapy.

The numbers are absurd to begin with, our total military is only about 1.4 million, so their saying almost half are suffering from some kind of mental trauma?

Considering of ground personnel, only about 20% ever see combat of any kind, these studies are saying just about everyone that sees combat is going to be mentally harmed.

Folks, people have been fighting wars for several thousand years, its human nature.
WWII and Korea saw far more soldiers come under artillary fire or other high explosive attacks.

Nwokie, don't you trust the reporting of Fox news?

As to your 20%, you forget these wars are unlike any others. Roadside bombs are causing more "nonfatal" injuries, that leave internal wounds that many times do not show up until later.

Soldiers from WWII and so on had mental trauma as well, it just wasn't diagnosed.

The soldiers have much better body armor, which means they survive more often, but the quantity of wounded soldiers is much lower.

And generally fewer than 20% of personnel see any combat at all.

You can spin until you throw up, Nwokie. The facts are, 300,000 suffer from PTSD or depression, and 320,000 suffer from traumatic brain injuries. And every day the war goes on, those numbers will increase.

Nwokie, how do you explain the deaths and injuries of women, who are not combat soldiers, or the cooks and clerks also killed and injured. There are no front lines in Iraq or Afghanistan. Everyone there should be considered "combat" personnel.

Yes, some might have better body armor than we had in Vietnam, but that does not protect them from internal injuries or brain damage from the impact of bombs and bullets that do not kill them.

Mc...
I ask on those EXTREME RIGHT neo-CONer message boards all the time and they give me the same Abortion, Guns, Gays and God crap. You ask them a question about something sane and in 2.85 seconds they go postal and throw the Abortion subject right into your lap. It's like reading the RNC website and LimBLAH all wrapped up into one.

That's because the right to life is extremely important.

If we don't have that, everything else is merely rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Well, they range from what might become a viable baby, to full on babies!

A few cells isn't a person. Might end up being one, but not yet one.

On the other hand, the volunteer solders are people. Viable people, who gave their time in service to their country. They give it for us, and that's a gift that is a high crime to abuse.

They are being abused --hard right now, and that's not cool at all.

Well then you should have assembled a team that would over turn Roe V Wade. You had your shot. You blew it.

I now blame you for all abortions, Herb. Right? I mean, you blame Democrats for allowing it. Now I blame Republicans for not changing it.

That's only fair, right?

"That's only fair, right?"

That's like blaming Mother Teresa for all the poor children she couldn't help.

Bad logic, my friend. You're capable of much better work.

I'll blame last night's partying for it so you don't have to.

Okay, now the gloves come off.

I don't carry water for the Romanist church, but when it comes to Mother Teresa, those who would attack her speak volumes about their own shortcomings.

"you have no problem with killing babies but don't want more volunteer soldiers to die"

An abortion does not amount to "killing babies". As a person who's wife has had two miscarriages, I can tell you from experience that a clump of cells has no guarantee towards viability. However, a living, breathing soldier sure as heck is viable, and you're damn straight I don't want our volunteer soldiers to die NEEDLESSLY.

If you are going to start talking about abortion and when it becomes a life then you must include this handy little item...IMO

Dont mistake an natural occuring event such as a miscarriage the same as a person yanking out body parts with a hose...

Its your opinion and nothing else, does not make you any more right on the matter then Herb.
