This from All Access: ------------------------Doug Pledger Dead At 89------------------------- DOUG PLEDGER, a longtime BAY AREA broadcaster who worked at several BAY AREA radio stations from the 1940s to 1990s and was a popular voice at classical music station KKHI for several decades, died APRIL 7th. He was 89. THE S.F. GATE writes, PLEDGER, who had been ill for months, worked in broadcasting as recently as five years ago, recording shows in his home for stations outside the market. With a booming voice even when he was in his 20s and 30s, the host of "PLEDGER Plays the Classics" and "PLEDGER at the Opera" began announcing on KKHI the day it went on the air (as KSMO) in 1947. And he was there when it went off the air 47 years later. Doug Pledger was heard locally on KKEY in the 1960's.

I think you will find the KYTE-FM automation system also featured the voice of Doug Pledger when they were Classical. (Edit) Well, I see mine isn't the only post on this subject! 2nd edit: I believe that Pledger on KKEY was referred to as "The Cosmopolitan Sound".

There was also a time (early '60's?) when "Pledger Plays the Classics" was on KKEY.

And the neighbor man next door was a huge Pledger fan... He tried to get this 6th grader in SE Portland to expand his horizons a bit...but I was hooked on KISN!
