It means less hub flights to cold Minneapolis and more to warmer Atlanta.

The article said they don’t plan on closing any of either airlines hubs.

I just hope they don't change from being partners with Alaska for frequent flyer miles!

Andy pretty much nailed it on the head.

With fuel prices so high, and the economy so sluggish, one of the very first things people cut out is what they deem un-necessary air travel.

What a super-airline in a merger like this does is, in this case, take two airlines who both have been under bankruptcy protection and put them together to pool their resources, cut overhead in upper management and that ... maybe get a better deal on fuel because of the sheer amount they'll be getting.

What'll be interesting is, how the unions representing the employees have to say. I've been talking to a lot of ground guys for US Airways who were with America West before AWA bought out US Air and took their name ... there was also a union switch, one they were NOT happy with and one that caused a lot of turnover. Both Delta and Northwest (especially Delta) have had serious labor strife with their pilots, what will happen of this now?

I'll be interested to see how this all plays out.

Less flights at a higher price will be the result. Why else would two airlines merge? The simple truth is, it costs more to fly than what airlines are charging right now, so if you fly often, be prepared to pay more.

Well, when you have pilot's shooting their own planes, maintenance costs are gonna go up for sure! And were the hell is that free gas from Iraq anyway? That'd sure help things out.

Next month, United/Continental.

What next, Microsoft Airlines?

Press release July 12,2010 Redmond, WA. (AP) Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer announced today that Microsoft will acquire every airline operating in the United States. In an effort to revitalize Microsoft's waning share in the technology sector, Balmer said plans to replace all the pilots with the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator will save millions in salaries. Microsoft's plans also include replacing the entire staff of flight attendants with that little annoying paper clip help icon.

Wife flying in to Sea from Pit on Saturday. the 201.00 airfare bought in Feb looks mighty good now.

What next, Microsoft Airlines?

Maybe Air WAL*MART.......

Funny how mergers never result in the same level of service and lower prices as they like to say...

It makes me nervous for Portland. Delta use to run the flights to Tokyo and pulled them out. I hope they don't do that again. I recommend if you oppose this like I do, write your senators and congressman and let them know. Good lord, how much CEO greed do we have to subsidize?

Looks like there's a piloting job for me at home.
