That's what this report says:
http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Rhodes_done_with_Air_America_0410.html

Maybe she wants to use the publicity over the AA suspension to jump start her move to SFO.

You reap what you sow...you experience the results of your own actions...timeless principle...

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people...Galations 5 NIV

Randi Rhodes is a less tame version of Turi Ryder who was in the Portland market years ago.

Last I heard, Ms. Ryder found another station. So will Ms. Rhodes. Given strange recent events in her life reported in the news, Randi Rhodes apparently has some heavy personal/spiritual issues.

According to RawStory, Air America will soon announce "new talent." I wonder who will replace Rhodes. I've never been much of a fan of Randi's style (a bit shrill and repetitive for me) but I wish her well. I wonder if she'll be syndicated from Green 960?

Broadway, when will Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly, and Savage reap what they sow? Does god love right wingers but not left wingers when it comes to hate-talk radio? Please show us the way, as it appears you have a direct line of communication with god that the rest of us don't.

Oh, put Ms Rhodes back on Air America, I agree she should have freedom of speech. no matter how dumb it is, or how much it hurts the demo's libs.

What else did god invent? I'd like to know why god didn't invent a way to verify his claims. Seems pretty fishy to me...

I find it hard to see Randi's situation as a freedom of speech issue. It's not like she was overheard making the comments to a friend in a bar. She was on-stage, as an Air America host, when the comments were made. I can't imagine not being outright fired if I had done the same thing at a station event for any station I've worked for. My impression from the info making the rounds this morning is that she quite rather than apologize.

What are Lee's qualifications to verify the existence of god? Lee knows no more or less than any other human about this subject. If it was fact, there would be no debate.

As for Randi, freedom of speech ends when you walk into your employer's place of business, and it's the radio station's right to fire her if they don't like what she's saying over the airways. Maybe she can find a corner in SF to outshout the god freaks yelling we're all going to hell on the other corner.

"What are Lee's qualifications to verify the existence of god?"

Like plenty of other Christians, including C.S. Lewis, Mr. Strobel is a former atheist.

He worked for years as an investigative journalist, has a legal background and worked for a large Chicago daily newspaper.

By the way, Jesus was a carpenter. Was His resume' good enough for you?

Well, she's found a home with Nova M

http://www.novamradio.com/

Hey, maybe then Sam Ceder can get a full time national gig again! This could all be a net positive, with AAR having some incentive to change his participation level.

IMHO, that puts Randi back on WJNO, FL and explains some of the commentary heard on the shows leading up to the suspension.

So far, ZERO apology. Good.

So Lee's qualifications are the same as anyone else. He really doesn't know what he's talking about, he's just guessing. Any idiot can do the same thing.

...and we get "munch" from Law and Order to sample for a bit.

Interesting. I've never heard him on radio, should be fun.

Could it be that we actually have a problem where there are too many left leaning radio hosts? KPOJ sees a competitor in PDX?

Could happen if Nova M continues to build up the AAR first generation of voices. (most of whom were just great, BTW) and AAR brings on new gens and maybe centrists.

No doubt KPOJ will pick up Randi Rhodes from Nova-M starting next Monday - should be easy given that they already have Mike Malloy's show on in the evenings.

I do wish KPOJ would take this opportunity first of all to put Rachel Maddow on live (3-5pm pacific) like the Seattle Progressive Talk station does and just delay Rhodes a little more, 5-8.

At this point, though, KPOJ has as much Air America Radio programming than non-AAR shows. The Morning Show (3 hours), Ed Schultz (3 hours), Mike Malloy (3 hours) and now (I presume) 3 hours of Rhodes from Nova-M; the non-AAR shows (6-9, 12-6) would occupy the most listened-to times of day. This shows how less relevant AAR is becoming to survival of the "Progressive Talk" format.

Why is religion being brought up on this thread? What did Rhodes say that was sacrilegious, blasphemous, or in some other way "mock[ed] God?" I thought that the controversial remarks were strictly about Hillary R. Clinton.

Look, this was a business deal, not politics. Randi was in a contract beef with AA's newest financiers, and refused to cave in to a contract modification that would have eliminated a no-cut except for cause. So AA found cause, in the video of Randi's standup act, and played poker with it and lost their top-rated host, potentially some affiliates, and maybe the whole shootin' match. Imagine that: Air America, managed badly.

What Randi said was not much different from Carlin, Maher, and any number of people she aspires to follow. It wasn't original or imaginative. Imus got fired because of the outcry, Sharpton and Jackson and so on, that followed his Rutgers stumble. After Randi's words, where was Steinem? Where was Hillary herself? Nobody cared about this, except O'Reilly and his like.

Never bet on a draw, unless you will have the nuts when it hits.

AAR has just learned this lesson. IMHO, a good thing. If Nova M can get Ceder, they will have rebuilt much of the original AAR. Lots of interesting voices = good radio.

Should AAR decide to continue to compete, they will very likely head closer to center. If their current replacement for Randi is any indication, it's highly likely they will go for star power and a more center - left message.

If so, that's good.

Talk radio expands to fill not only the very left leaning niche, but offer solid choice to most moderates.

AM might be a good business for a while longer yet.

Say what you want about talk. It has no peer where daily relevance and story are concerned. It's strong personalities, a freaking soap opera in it's own people that would be hard to write, and of course the politics that nobody could make up.

Well put, plus, radio is the only medium that can prosper by pandering to a narrow base. Conservative radio, even multiple stations in a lefty market like Portland, is doing OK--even though the majority of Americans gag at the last eight years. You attract one person out of twenty who doesn't think you stink, and that's a five share, baby.

What's funny is that while Air America has - in name - made it to its fifth year, all of the original hosts are now gone from the daily lineup. Al Franken and Randi Rhodes were the marquee draws that got the network started. Only Sam Seder from The Majority Report is still on, Sundays. Even Air America Radio News is gone.

Who is left on AAR who is really that good? Thom Hartmann and Rachel Maddow are both great, but Maddow doesn't really do talk. It's easy to see Hartmann on Nova-M as well. Sam Seder has already worked for Nova-M - as a fill-in for Mike Malloy - so it's not hard to imagine him there as well.

Perhaps in a few years "Air America" will still be around but will just be another syndicator of shows like Lionel and The Young Turks and no longer be known as "The Liberal Network."
