That NONE of the EXTREME RIGHTIES would ask....
Was Al-Qaeda in Iraq BEFORE we INVADED....?
Notice that Petraeus doesn't answer the question about whether Al-Qaeda was in Iraq before we INVADED....
And was there any Iran influence in Iraq before we INVADED?

Barack was very presidential. More important than anything else, he asked the General and Ambassador about what conditions they thought were necessary for drawing down the troops.

It's grand standing when we've got some very bad judgment calls to talk about isn't it?

This is going to be the standard line going forward. Republicans will just try to marginalize anything that makes them look bad, and lie about the rest, largely because we just don't yet know it makes them look bad.

Who give a crap except someone grand standing in front of the TV cameras.

With a statement like that EVERYTHING you say from this point forward is horse crap.
Because of what YOUR President and his mighty henchmen did Al-Qaeda is in Iraq.
Where in God's name is Bin Laden? Where is the MASTERMIND of 9/11? DEAD OR ALIVE.... I think your President said that. WHERE IS HE??? SMOKE THEM OUT! Another quote from DUHbya.
Anyone who doesn't question WHY Al-Qaeda wasn't there before we INVADED Iraq is just plain IGNORANT.

Ok, for the kids at home:

Bush is a Republican and he started the Republican war, is currently blocking efforts to undo a Republican economy, claiming Republican king like powers, and encouraging a Republican Supreme Court.

Those are the major hitters. There is lots more.

The key thing here is that we know what happens when we vote for Republicans.

Now, McCain is a Republican, running to be the next Republican President.

Why is this important?

Because we are seeing Republicans run like rats, worried about the implications of all the Republican corruption.

All of that corruption is exactly why McCain will give us a third Bush term. He can't really do much else or a lot of people are going to be in bigger trouble than they currently are.

Also very important is the idea that everything Bush has done is ok and is good for us. Electing McCain would do that.

The corruption is also important because it demonstrates that Republicans cannot police themselves. Republicans worked hard for a strong Republican Majority.

They did this because they said it would be necessary to really move the nation forward. That didn't happen.

Instead, we get all the crap we are having to live with today.

We have seen absolutely nothing to suggest that somehow the Republicans will just start being statesmen again. Why do that, when the money and power is so good. right?

Finally, we have NO accountability in the congress and very little in the courts. What we do have there seems to just be ignored by Republicans right now.

The only accountability we have left is in the ballot box. Electing McCain for President would not be holding Republicans accountable for the results of their hard earned majority. Given that 80 percent of us are not pleased with the results of that, it's totally relevant as to why they are unhappy.

Enter the Republican George W. Bush. He's the guy folks. It's his show, and the party, namely, the Republicans, own it, lock stock and barrel. He is the Republican that has set the Republican party up for a big fall.

Get back to me when McCain repudiates being endorsed by the Republican President Bush, and makes clear and strong statements about how he will govern differently. Specifically, how he is going to get the Republican party to police itself, be accountable, honor the checks and balances and quit infringing on our civil liberties. A sane statement or to on our current economic realities would be a nice follow on as well.

Until then, it's all relevant, on the table, and fair game for voting decisions.

We all know what happens when we vote for Republicans. That's the Bush legacy right there. McCain wants to carry that awful legacy forward, affirm it and continue to pursue it.

Obama is a Democrat and he wants to fix that stuff. He says so all the time. He says so clearly and in a strong way.

The Democrats are working on more and better Democrats, up to and including running primary challenges for those lousy (Lieberman) type Democrats that went along with the Republican George W. Bush.

Democrats don't own this crap. It was not their call, was not their majority, are not being held accountable for it.

When we vote Democrat this coming election, we are voting for change --ideally positive change. If we vote Republican, we are voting for more of the same old, same old.

Clear enough for you Deane?

Oh, did you read Nebraska is in play this year? That's right, Democrats have their best shot at solid wins in the state that they have had for years.

Why?

Because people are really unhappy with Republicans. They know what happens when we vote for Republicans.

March 18, 2008:

Mr. McCain said several times in his visit to Jordan — in a news conference and in a radio interview — that he was concerned that Iran was training Al Qaeda in Iraq. The United States believes that Iran, a Shiite country, has been training and financing Shiite extremists in Iraq, but not Al Qaeda, which is a Sunni insurgent group.

Sen. McCain said at a news conference in Amman that he continued to be concerned about Iranians "taking Al Qaeda into Iran, training them and sending them back." Asked about that statement, Mr. McCain said: "Well, it's common knowledge and has been reported in the media that Al Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran. That's well known. And it's unfortunate."

It was not until he got a quiet word of correction in his ear from Senator Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut, who was traveling with Mr. McCain as part of a Congressional delegation on a nearly weeklong trip, that Mr. McCain corrected himself.

"I'm sorry," Mr. McCain said, "the Iranians are training extremists, not Al Qaeda."

NYT

March 19, 2008:

"Today in Iraq, America and our allies stand on the precipice of winning a major victory against radical Islamic extremism. The security gains over the past year have been dramatic and undeniable. Al Qaeda and Shia extremists -- with support from external powers such as Iran -- are on the run but not defeated."

Time

Three times in 24 hours? Actually Senator, nothing has changed since yesterday when Joe had to fill you in with the facts. It is too bad you were wandering all over the Middle East sharing the wrong information in press conferences and meetings for a week before he caught it. It is more regrettable that you chose to repeat your blunder yet again in a press release on the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Iran has nothing to do with Al Qaeda. Try not to forget it sir.

April 8, 2008:

SENATOR MCCAIN: There are numerous threats to security in Iraq and the future of Iraq. Do you still view al Qaeda in Iraq as a major threat?

GENERAL PETRAEUS: It is still a major threat, though it is certainly not as major a threat as it was, say, 15 months ago.

SENATOR MCCAIN: Certainly not an obscure sect of the Shi'ites, all overall, or Sunnis or anybody else.

GENERAL PETRAEUS: No. No, sir.

NYT

It reminds me of the "hungry-walkies-need-to-poop" dance from an old, blind and deaf dog. Senator McCain's latest tactic is to mention all the different factions and hope that the kind General will nod at the right guess. Al Qaeda is a Sunni organization. Remember, Sunnis. Like the Saudis who murdered thousands on 9/11. Sunnis. Got it? Should I write it down for you? S-u-n-n-i-s. Need another nap?

Grandstanding implies you were actually in the ballpark.

Kazillions of dollars and lives wasted and we don't have the "intelligence" or crews of elite special ops to find one guy? Sometimes I wonder if either Bush wants to keep him alive, or just doesn't care.

Geez, they do it in less than an hour on TV every night. With commercials. See "Without A Trace" and "Law and Order".
