...Before 14-Year-Old Mom Killed Him in Flush Attempt

(Sorry, had to continue the title in the post. It was over 80 characters long and it wouldn't accept the long title)

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,346351,00.html

This is extremely sad. It breaks my heart.

One of the things that I find disturbing is that the girl has an issue (I don't know what the deal is so I'm just calling it an issue for lack of a better term) with going to her parents.

I don't think that a child should ever be scared, afraid, etc. to go to his/her parents with an issue or problem. No matter what the problem is.

That's what a parent is for. Especially when you are only 14.

I'm not naive enough to think that everybody lives in a "Leave it to Beaver" world and I know some kids can't or won't go to their parents with problems because they are afraid of what the parent(s) will say or do and that's sad too.

No child should grow up afraid of their parents.

She has an issue with going to her parents because their fucked up culture and religion SHAME HER! A properly educated and non-brainwashed girl would not do this. This is what happens when you deny women the health care and education they deserve.

Exactly, the parents are mostly to blame for this whole incident.
What are the school systems teaching 14 year old girls today??
I sure hope they are being taught about Birth Control, STDS and other important issues. If the school systems are not doing a good enough job than the parents better be. I'm not a parent, but their should be nothing taboo in a household. A child should be able to discuss ANYTHING with a parent!!

The article doesn’t say ANYTHING about that, so you are just speculating and spreading your anti-Christian, anti-religion propaganda.

No speculating needed. Why else would she be afraid? There are no reasons available that exonerate her family and her culture.

Oh, I don't know....Maybe her dad beats her. Maybe he's a drunk, maybe her mom beats her or is abusive to her.

There is no way to know with the information given.

It would all be pure speculation.

Whatever the reason is it's a sad commentary on today's society.

Maybe the girl's mother should have had an abortion 15 years ago.

I chose not to read the story because I don't need those kinds of details running around in my head.

But I will offer the following:

There is simply no excuse for abuse period. 4000 women die each year in our country due to abuse.

You're right Skybill many kids can't go to their parents when they need it most because those parents aren't mature themselves or are abusive. My wife comes from that type of family. She is a surviver and you do what you have to do to survive. You make bad choices because no one has taken time to show you the difference between what is a good and bad choice.

However at some time in your life as you become an adult you MUST take responsibility. If that means getting professional help then get it and make changes.

I have a 14 year old girl and thankfully between my wife and myself we have had many open discussions on EVERYTHING. Nothing is out of bounds. What we've learned to do is to use language at age appropriate times so that she could understand complex issues. As she has gotten older she is firm in her value system and knows how to handle herself. We are doing the same with our nearly teen age son.

America by far is THE most violent country in the world which is truly a sad commentary indeed. Thankfully we have people who choose to stand in the gap to help the least of these, I would hope some of us on this message are some of those people.
