Look, this guy has great press people and all... but the fact remains that Paul turns 90yrs old in September. He probably doesn't have that many "good days" left in him. A legend for sure, but even legends fade away. |

As long as his body can keep enough blood and oxygen to his brain, there is still enough life and energy left in Paul Harvey to continue his broadcasts. |

And you can STILL learn a thing or three from each of his broadcasts! I think you won't find a better wordsmith on the air today. That's what makes it work. |

On the other hand, Mike, George Burns was doing concerts REGULARLY until age 98, slowed down only by a fall in the bathtub! |

That's right... and I wish only the longest run possible for Paul Harvey. However, I think George Burns, at 98, was at the low end of the bell-curve on that one. |

We play all parts of Harvey at our station in each daypart. I have The Rest of the Story played just prior to 4, then repeated again prior to 5. I enjoy him, as I was raised on him, but do get more complaints than compliments as he is a generation divider due to the old style delivery. |

KEX took the show away from KWJJ-AM a long time ago. I heard at the time that in order to do so, they would have to triple KWJJ's ratings, a certain amount of times, so they did. |

It was in 1986 that Paul Harvey moved from KWJJ to KEX. "Paul Harvey News & Comment" had been on KWJJ since 1959 but had debuted on KEX in 1951, moving to KGW 1956-59 with ABC programming. |

Tadc: We're down in Klamath Falls, but if you want to listen online, we have Harvey at various times throughout the day. Paul Harvey's 15 mintues starts on our station anywhere between 11:55am to Noon. I've got The Rest of the Story (which he is back on now) during my show at about 3:58pm and repeat again at 4:58pm. We are a full service country station with an emphasis on music, but complimented by additional stuff. You can listen on line at www.kladfm.com. |

Hah, I think when I was at OIT may have been the last time I heard PH. Didn't he used to air on KAGO? |
|

Actually, yes he did, and we still have him on there. It's just with the stronger signal on KLAD, we added him here a while back. I've only been here about six months, so going back in time on things is not something I'm privey to in this area. Prior to moving here, I used to hunt and fish in the area as a kid. Well, I didn't hunt in downtown KF, but nearby. |

I was working at KWJJ in the late 70's - my first gig in Portland - when Paul Harvey broadcast from our studios. Early, early morning. |

Paul Harvey is a fine gentleman worthy of much respect. That being said, I'd like to see him retire. He seems to be out sick and ailing all the time (even before the passing of his wife), and it's kind of sad. It it of course, his choice. But many people in the public eye chose to retire when they're still on top of their game. He's made a different choice, and I just hope he never has to be forced into retirement. That's why I'd like to see him go on his own. Best wishes and condolences to Mr. Harvey! |

They've truly done a poor job building a replacement. This is basic management, like Carson to Leno to O'Brien, and Keep to Hollister to Miller. They could have used Paul's absences to set up a succession. Instead they've produced the folksy Ron Chapman from Dallas, doing a fine job in long relief but too new to the national audience to become iconic. And we have Paul Jr., working on his Paul Sr. impression. But, in a country full of talent, they haven't found the next populist icon, and a midday listening tradition in every dusty town in America is in danger. |

You realize he went "off" in February? Sad that health and then his wife have made a return take so long..... Some interesting fill ins like Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabey. Best guy to fill in those isn't - and I wonder why!!! - Fred Thompson is the guy to be doing fill ins.....! |

Fred Thompson would be a good replacement if he stayed folksy, and non-political. |

True enough, but part of Paul Harvey's enduring power is that he has always been the exception to the current age. His rural homespun grampa approach has gone against the grain of every decade since the 1960's. You can't instantly create a new grampa, which is why Fred Thompson wouldn't stick. You have to have someone who's been there for years and years and years, like Paul. ABC, had they been farsighted enough, could have found and built up a successor, but they didn't and now it's too late. |

Paul Harvey was booked as a speaker in the fall of 1968 at the college I attended. This was approaching the height of the Vietnam war protests and Paul was decidedly major Republican. |

Yeah, that's some forehead, Lurch, or Frankenstein maybe. He was smart enough to break with Nixon and change his views on Vietnam a little earlier than his peers, though he was well behind Cronkite. I actually spent time with Paul Harvey on two professional occasions and found him formally affable. Angel was with him, and seemed like Nancy to his Ronnie, silently beaming and running the show behind the scenes. |
