You obviously didn't bother to read the article, because it doesn't match the title you posted in the thread. Next time, try to find an article that doesn't almost contradict the title of your thread.

Seriously, has anyone noticed the amount of senility
creeping in the posts of Deane and Nwokie?

(Herb is just a troll who knows exactly what he's doing.)

You have a committee, appointed by the house and senate leadership, which are both democratic controlled, recommending taking away veterans preference, that reflects on the leadership, which is democratic.

Did you read the article? This is only the 4th paragraph:

"With regards to experience, references or other factors, the House committee, headed by Rep. Robert Brady, D-Pa., wanted veterans to be hired ahead of nonveterans as long as there were veterans seeking the jobs."

Appears the leadership of the committee, who is a DEMOCRAT, wants to give veterans preference over nonvets.

But the committee they appointed thinks different, that was to give them cover, they can say one thing, but the committee acts another way.

The order itself makes sense. All it does is take away the preference for simply "being a veteran" over, say, experience. To quote the article:

The final rules, however, say experience can be considered, because offices should not be forced to hire people who are not qualified, especially for positions such as security guards.

So as it is now, if there's an opening for a security guard, an unqualified veteran would get the job before someone who might actually be qualified for the job. The rules change (to bring this hiring practice in line with the rest of government hiring) makes sense to me: experience should count for something. Shouldn't it? Of course, if two people apply for a job, both are experienced, but one is a veteran, the veteran should get preference. Doesn't sound to me like this rules change would prevent that.

(Interesting how Nwokie is suddenly in favor of affirmative action when it comes to a class he cares about, though, huh?)

I don't believe veterans should be given preference. I'm okay with employers taking that into consideration of the overall package though. Qualified people should always be given preference over all other factors, and being a vet, as honored as that is, shouldn't allow them to take away a job from someone more qualified.
