Replacement search is now underway over at SW Columbia. Rumor has it that his contract was not renewed.

Hmmm, always makes a jock wonder why, doesn't it? Wait, it's radio where anything and everthing goes, even staff. Interesting to see who the next "tomorrow" body will be... only the shadow knows...

Just a cranky sidebar, but it would be a lot more interesting if relevant info was posted when starting these threads. It took me a visit to the 2 KUPL websites to learn that Smokey was a jock at the station, and then a 3000 day search of pdxradio revealed he'd been mentioned only once in 8 years here (last July). Context. (and a pet peeve)

Have noticed a opening for 2 positions at KUPL. One is for Smokey's shift and one for a part-timer. Are they moving a part-timer to fill Smokeys spot or are they blowing out 2 people ?

If they are smart, they will move "Boss Hoss) Sp? Into a full time postion. That guy sounds great on the air! Was listening to him last night and he is awesome! One of the best jocks on that station hands down.

Wow, I'm really surprised, keep reading. I almost posted a while back during the various mass firings at both CBS Portland and Entercom Portland something along the lines of "anyone notice how the on-air staffs of the country stations haven't been touched?," and would've added "I don't actively listen to country music or either radio station, but I do hear both of them on in various establishments. Even if you're not a fan of country music it's obvious these are probably some of the best stations (if not the) best stations in Portland right now." Now, it seems things are changing.

"It took me a visit to the 2 KUPL websites to learn that Smokey was a jock at the station, and then a 3000 day search of pdxradio revealed he'd been mentioned only once in 8 years here (last July)." He's a jock on a Portland radio station. Saying "Smokey out at KUPL" is enought info. Or maybe I should desribe the location of Portland first, then define "station" for everyone. Oh, and I better define "jock" too. C'mon, if you don't know who the guy is then maybe the thread wasn't intended for you.

Nice addition to the blog there Shane. I like it and chuckled since I read the initial thread as "Does anyone know anything?" I don't know what just happened, but would be curious to find out some facts as I worked with the guy for nearly three years when he first came to Portland. He had some great energy when he started. That's all I've got... for now.

It could have been a misprint, read "Smoke Out at KUPL", indicating the transmitter fire about 20 years ago was finally out. Any help we can give people in defining our point is a good thing!
