I don't expect Deane and Herb to say word one about this, but I have to wonder, why chase the "evil-doers" when THIS is going on:

Damn Bush.

Can't even get airline inspections right.

Damn Republicans.

Blah, Blah, Blah.

That being vented, the FAA does need to make sure the airlines are in compliance.

It's not lie a car. If something breaks, you can't just pull over to the side of the road and fix it!

Republicans are the problem.

We are suffering from a Republcan war.

We are living in a Republican "trickle down" economy.

Republican foreign policy has diminished our stature globally.

There is a lot of Republican fear being cultivated and exploited EVERY SINGLE DAY.

Republicans are violating our core rights as American citizens, EVERY DAY.

I could easily go on, for a good long time about the damage done to us by Republicans.

Recently, the Republican George W. Bush endorsed Republican John McCain, in the hopes he will succeed in a third Republican Presidency. That means more of the same Republican leadership, and problems.

Remember a few years back when being strong meant "good for the nation", party unity was the right thing to do, largely because the rest of us don't understand the real world?

It was said then, the Republicans own it. They call the shots, they denied others their shot at debate, bent the rules, and generally just rammed their Republican agenda through.

Well, here we are. Look around. That's Republican leadership that brings us serious Republican problems, and McCain is a Republican, endorsed by the head Republican, George W. Bush, the current Republican President.

--and the Republican McCain, asked for that key Republican nomination too!

I would not be a proud Republican right now. In fact, I switched out, because of what the word "Republican" was coming to mean.

Yeah, Republicans are the problem. As a Republican, you can work on voting in better Republicans. That's a good thing. You can also reconsider continuing to support the current Republicans and their Republican policies too.

Over time Republican might be a good word again, but it sure isn't today.

"Sept 11" is Arabic for "Saudia Arabia," the Bush family's best friends, who supplied most of the terrorists who crashed the planes.

The Republican party had it's shot. Worked hard, got it done, ruled the roost.

And look at the mess!

Now it's time to rebuild. That means sorting through the party, building on those good Republicans (and there are some), booting the bad ones, if they've not resigned out of fear of jail, and working from there.

That's what the Democratic party has been doing. Lots of new Democrats, primary challenges to bad Democrats, by Democrats, with the idea of there simply being more and better Democrats.

The Republican party won't do this, if we say, "It's all ok" with another Republican Presidency.

That is exactly what will happen if we elect the Republican McCain for President. We will get another Republican President and we all know what happens when we vote for Republicans right now, right?

I was a Republican. Can't be a part of this crap. It's easier to let go of the party, so it can rebuild, than it is to live with the idea that I helped enable this crap.

Again, that's exactly what a vote for the Republican McCain is doing. Enabling more crap.

I could not tell you about the undead bimbo brigade, but I do know a little something about airplanes. My experience is limited to general aviation, but this crap happens on a smaller scale too. I also hasten to remind everyone that greed and accountability are not partisan issues. The imbalance between those two factors could kill any one of us.

It should come as no surprise to anyone here that sometimes an owner will ignore the recommendations of his A&P mechanic and hire an outside A/I to sluff on an annual, override a long squawk list from his wrench, or fake long overdue ADs. Sometimes, but not as often, a poor mechanic will bring his own A/I in to make himself look better. Either way, it is not the right way. I think Skybill will agree with me that there are no aircraft owners more dangerous than penny pinchers, and people who fake logs or repairs are scum.

Now, imagine that the cheapass owner is not just a guy with a grass strip and a worn out Cessna in his barn, but an entire fleet of commercial jets. His airline can easily cook the books and influence crooked FAA inspectors. Yeah, that is a scary situation. Before you think about flying Southwest Airlines, you ought to watch the congressional hearing on C-Span.

*DING* You are now free to groan about the country...

In the airline business, contracting out the maintainance/service work usually means giving union jobs to non-union workers.

You usually get what you don't pay for. Don't believe me? Just ask Frank Lorenzo, ex-CEO of bankrupt EAL.

http://www.centennialofflight.gov/essay/Dictionary/lorenzo/DI131.htm

. . . The Deregulation Act of 1978 allowed Lorenzo to expand his business dealings and he systematically began to acquire companies such as Continental Airlines, New York Air, Frontier Airlines, and Eastern Airlines, in his bid to compete with the new non-unionized airlines. By the mid-1980s, he had acquired a reputation for vicious business practices that were particularly unfair to the labor force. By filing for bankruptcy at different points in his career, he was able to bypass unionized labor and impose harsh working conditions on the employees of his various corporations. His rise to the top was finally thwarted when Eastern Airlines collapsed in 1991 and a U.S. bankruptcy court ruled that Lorenzo was unfit to run the company. . . .

May Frank Lorenzo hang from chains next to Kenneth Lay in Hell.

"Name one right you have had violated, this year by R4publicans. Name one verifiable right that you personally know has been violated. "

How about every one of your private internet communications being sent to the NSA by AT&T? That's a verifiable fact and an invasion of privacy.
