No indication on their website among locations double-asterisked as "under construction."

They're buying out Burgerville. They want BV's choice locations and they're impressed with the company's image. They won't be converting ALL BV's into In-n-Out's. Just a few to get a foothold.

The Mill Plain store down town will be the first In-n-Out. I'm surprised nobody else here knew about this.

They're not franchising are they?? Because if They are, that is not good! The food quality will deteriate. The best part of In N Out is that they use fresh ingredients at each store. They peel their own potatoes to make their own fires, everything is really fresh.

Now do you think if They start popping up everywhere they will be able to maintain the freshness instead of using frozen ingedients already prepared like Mcdonalds do?? I would love to have an In N out in Portland, BUT I don't want them to sacrifice the integrity of the food, which a lot of stores do, when they start increasing the number of locations.
I hope they don't fall into the Clear Channel of Fast food, That would SUCK!!! And when Im talking about the Clear Channel of Fast food, I mean nothing would be fresh, the food would be sent over frozen, prepackaged. And If it was the Clear Channel of Fast food, The person talking to you at the drive thru window would be voicetracked. HA!!!

Clear Channel, "destroying one industry at a time"!

When I was living in Eugene several years ago, someone tried to do a copy of an "In-n-Out" near the Valley River Mall. The menu was almost exactly the same, the food wasn't, and eventually the real In-n-Out threatened litigation, and the place closed. I understand "In-n-Out" is extremely protective of their trademark, as this has happened in other states as well.

Hot & Now?

In the mid-90s, they had a Hot & Now on Mill Plain a couple blocks away from Dairy Queen (near where the tax place is.) Now it's a Starbucks drive-through.

I couldn't remember the name, but a search brought this nugget up...

COPYRIGHT 2003 The Register Guard

Byline: Edward Russo

Aug. 14--What's in a name?

Jerry Rizza is about to find out.

Rizza is converting his former Taco Time restaurant near Valley River Center in Eugene to a hamburger outlet he's calling In or Out Burger.

That name is similar to In-N-Out Burger, a California-based chain with 170 outlets in California, Nevada and Arizona.

Rizza dropped the Taco Time franchise because he figures a drive-through burger place will do better...

Man, I was about to get pissed about anyone fucking with Burgerville. I'm still pissed about them getting rid of the "barrel of fries".

I try to limit my fast food overall, but Burgerville is by far my favorite when I need grease.

Who's been to Dea's In-n-Out in Gresham? Very good Longburgers and a great breakfast menu. My summer job back in 1980 was peeling and slicing fries in the back room (they buy precut fries today).

Hot & Now?
That was what Taco Bell's parent company (might have been Pepsi at the time) tried to start up back in the 90s. Several locations were right next to existing Taco Bell locations (Tigard comes to mind). As I understood it, the place just wasn't making any money.

The former Tigard location became Papa Murphy's after sitting vacant for a few years. The one near Powell and 82nd has been a car title and payday loan place for years.

Who's been to Dea's In-n-Out in Gresham?
Haven't ever been there, but I was at the Jack-in-the-Box at SE Stark and 257th yesterday.

"That was what Taco Bell's parent company.

At the time it was called "PepsiCo"......the company Yum! Brands didn't exist until a few years ago, as I understand. (I am pretty sure Yum! Brands is just Pepsico under a different name, isn't it?)

It's an offshoot of the parent PepsiCo.

Now it's coming back to me... the Pepsi subsidiary used to be called "Tricon" - that's what I meant by "Taco Bell's parent company"
http://www.yum.com/about/brands.asp
In October of 1997, PepsiCo spun-off KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell thereby forming Tricon Global Restaurants Inc., the world’s largest restaurant company in terms of system units.

Don't you guys scare me like that about Burgerville! I've been enjoying that place since first going to Burgerville #1 and #2 when they had the shrimp burger. Now I just stick to the old stanby double beef cheese with extra sauce when I want to harden the arteries.

It's still one of the key stops I make when traveling I-5 to BC. Heck, I'm just excited we are eventually getting a Sonic down here in the future. It was a big day when Jack in the Crack opened. I thank them for my first meal Christmas Eve when I moved to Klamath Falls.
