Put your money where your mouth is. $100 says a Democrat will beat McCain in November.

Put up or shut up.

Thanks for the links, Herb. Here are the essential quotes:

"Overall, the race for the White House remains very competitive. The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Democrats leading in states with 200 Electoral Votes while the GOP has the advantage in states with 189. When “leaners” are added, the Democrats lead 247 to 240."

The Gallup poll only states that a percentage of voters on the day of the poll would consider voting for McC if their candidate (Clinton or Obama) was not the nominee.

Polls are a snapshot in time. What counts more are the results of the primaries, not the polls that change on a weekly basis depending on what is in the news that week. I wouldn't put too much stock in any poll except the one in November called election day.

Finally, nothing in those articles suggests McCain would win. If there is, please quote it. Rasmussen says nothing of the sort and the best you can find in gallup has to do with a percentage of possible defectors. It doesn't even mention how many Republicans have already defected the GOP, so the percentages cited by Gallup would have to be appllied to the GOP loyal minus the GOP defectors to actually come up with a number.

Also, none of this suggests Roe v Wade would be overturned.
The series of events that would be required for that to happen will take more than McCain winning the White House. It would take another Justice to retire (according to most pundits). Plus, a test case must navigate the channels, etc. These are the facts.

Frankly, based on the lack of support in the GOP base specifically the very segment that came out and helped Bush to come close to winning the 2000 election and somehow scraping through via the voting machine debacle and an underperforming opponent in J.K. in 2008 whom are not showing up in any primaries specifically the ones before Huckabee dropped out is a better "poll" about who is going to show up on election day.

McCain will lose.
Obama will be the next president.

Roe v Wade will stand.

Sorry Herb, I know it's important to you to impose your moral values on all Americans, but it is not going to happen. Now don't get emotional and call us all killers. That is not the case. If Bush hadn't spent his administrations energy on stifling the flow of birth control information, the shrinking abortion number would have shrunk even lower. Abortion is clearly not something anyone likes, but it is a woman's right to control her own reproductive machinery. You can spew all your "when life starts" rhetoric but the bottom line is that after 8 years of Bush devastating this country's economy (via the misdirected war in Iraq), demolishing our international reputation (via the misdirected war in Iraq) and making the populace as divided as we have been since the Civil War (via the misdirected war in Iraq)) the next President will NOT be a Republican.

Latest Vegas odds:

Hillary Clinton 4-1

John McCain 7-5

Barack Obama 2-3

Herb, stop saying McCain is going to win, as you are too chicken to take any bets on that.

Too chicken?

As my French pals often say, Au Contraire mon frère, Radioblogman.

If someone here will give $10 to either Birthright, Pregnancy Resource Centers or some other pro-adoption or pro-life cause with a republican win, I'll donate $10 to some liberal environmental cause if democrats win the White House. But anti-life liberal causes will get nary a dime from Ol' Herb

You are on my friend. As I also support Pregnancy Resource Centers to some degree, I will go for that one and you will go to PETA.

NO NO NO.

After the election, we ALL attend the next PDX Radio get together and have a laugh...and plan our overthrow of the Government. TOGETHER!

We buy each other beer and maybe I bring a masseuse I know to the party and we take stock in a job well done - even if we lost. This is one of the BEST parts of America. If after all that we have been though as a nation and I come out on the losing side, I will buy everyone many beers.

THAT'S a promise.

Agreed!

No matter how it goes, there should be a post-election meet up. We can get the trash talk done, make goofy predictions, drink some stuff (maybe a lotta stuff, depending!), tell jokes and such.

Fantasy moment: Can you all just imagine if this group ended up the government! I don't think it would be half bad! The pundits of the world would have more material than ever too!

The poll, in my opinion, is an indication of the partisan divide between the Clinton and Obama supporters. If anyone believes this will stand in November, I have some beach front property in Arizona to sell them.

Roe v. Wade will never be toast because the Republicans would lose chumps like Herb.

Naw, they'd still have me for fighting blackhearted commies, whilst supporting the 2nd Amendment.

But give me a pro-life democrat running against a 'pro-choice' republican, and I'm with you lefties.

You might vote as such, but you'd never be with the lefties. Who are the lefties, anyway Herb? Everyone is to the left of you.

I really do want to get together after this is all done.

Of course, I say that now - I may have my mind changed on it. See? I'm not so closed minded that I can't consider that as a possibility.

"Everyone is to the left of you."

Not quite.

General Patton was to the right of me, as is the lovely Phyllis Schlafly. Robert Bork and Ann Coulter may be a tad liberal for my taste, but they're okay.

That $10 will buy a very nice cold Stella for either you or me...and on draught, no less.

I was in Spokane last night and I had a couple of Stella's at the bar next door to the hotel. First time I've ever had one. Quite tasty!

Had a couple of Black Butte Porters too!

Glad you enjoyed them, Skybill. It sounds like your Stella's were on draught which is best, and not out of a bottle. Way to go.

Now don't get me wrong,
I like Stella just fine.

But honestly, we live in beer Mecca!

There are so many superior local choices, I'll only have a Stella, or a Guinness when I'm not in the Great Northwest.

Brian, it was a restaurant/bar. Prospectors. It was right beside the Hilton Garden Inn on Hwy 2 on the north side of the airport.

Sounds like a good buzz!

Oh yeah! It was. The Stella's were 24 or 30 oz mugs, 3 of those! And probably 4 or 5 pints of Black Butte!

No driving for Bill!!!!
