Oh, that's a toughie, Cweaklie.

Great question, though.

Some may say KPOJ, KBOO or KBMS.

But you know, I'm thinking it might be KMHD on the FM side and KBPS or KLYC on the AM side. All three of those have pretty eclectic, inclusive playlists.

KLYC. Eclectic? Inclusive? Well, if that means limited, sucks and doesn't serve the public, then yeah.

Hey now. Simply by playing Elvis, KLYC meets the criterion handily.

EVERYONE claims Elvis...He did gospel, pop, rock, country, blues, R&B, soul, swamp rock, you name it.

I don't know about reggae, but it was probably in Elvis' repetoire, too.

If he OWNED a radio station, it would be KINK! A market leader 25-54, local and involved, family-friendly, unafraid of change while respecting its heritage, with a slightly idealized image of who we are as listeners.

If Barack WAS a radio station, he'd be the Hot AC (18-49) Portland deserves! Fresh, live, local, committed to listener as well as the advertiser, family-friendly, and (I'm sorry beano) very well researched to reflect his constituancy. K103 circa 1990 or KGW 1978.

Hillary - KGON
Edwards - KUPL
McCain - KWJJ
Kucinich - KUFO
Guiliani - KYCH (just a bad idea from start to finish)
Huckabee - KFIS (doh)
Gore - KKSN (so over. sadly)

A station that wants to change what radio is all about. NONE of this corporate garbage we have now.

Agreed, Trixter.

Corporate radio has largely become a sick and pathetic joke.

AMEN! Barack would be smart enought to realize that portland radio is nothing but a bunch of voice tracked garbage that is completely unlistenable! Come on TDANNER give Barack more credit than that!

Well, the Obama radio station would have to be new-school, so that means HD --the best there is. Expanded Hybrid mode, three HD channels, the works!

Everybody will find something they like at the local Obama station.

(just look at his campaign graphics --sweet! His people do a great job, so his radio people would do the same, right?)

One brand though. Gotta have unity.

Might be three streams, but it's all going to hang together and look sharp. No straggers, branding wise.

There is change people, and there is well produced, good looking change. That's Obama.

The whole thing would be VT, coast to coast, with a morning show airing from a different city every week, just so everybody can feel the love.

One dial position too, or a coupla at most. Can't have all these people having to search for it! Just announce on the Oprah show, and *bam*, that's it! All done, next.

Totally well researched tunes too. Each Obama radio station would carry the national theme, but also feature a guest spot or two, from a well known supporter, and the local Obama group would totally vet the tunes, letting nothing controversial pass.

And it's totally FM. None of this older school AM crap.

Beano - maybe you should re-read my post. Got brains? In both examples (if he owned one or if he was one) I indicated I thought he'd be/own live, local, and community oriented.

(I'm his #1 fan -- and have provided others on this site with the bumper stickers I had the wisdom to buy monthes ago.

I have no clue which one it would be. Originally, I wanted to say KBMS, not out of any kind of stereotype, but because they do (or did) offer a block of local programming on Sunday mornings targetted at the local Black community. However, on closer inspection, this is a "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't" sort of question.

If you compare Obama with any of the commercial FM stations, someone will equate that with "paralysis by analysis" style research that stifles innovation. If you compare Obama with KBOO or similar community stations, some might take that to mean that he's amateurish. If you compare Obama with OPB, KMHD, or any other stations that receive Corporation for Public Broadcasting money, somebody will take that to mean that Obama is a pro-establishment statist. If you compare Obama with any of the AM stations that run political talk, somebody will think that you're trying to say that Obama is a demagogue. If you compare Obama with a Christian station, the question of Rev. Wright will raise its ugly head. If you say that Obama broadcasts HD Digital, you will piss of 62kgw, and somebody might ask, "so are you trying to say that Obama will spend money on new stuff that doesn't yet have a proven track record of success?"

I note that nobody yet has said anything like, "Obama is beyond terrestrial radio. Obama is on Internet (or satellite) radio only." Of course some people would take that as a comparison between Obama and Howard Stern.

Note: I am neither taking a stand for or against the Obama campaign.

What do you think Sirius "Area 33" is?

And it has nothing to do with Howard Stern !

When I heard "Area 33," the first thing that I thought of was Area 51, Roswell, dead aliens, and Art Bell. On closer inspection, if 33 is meant to refer to 33 1/3 RPM LP records, maybe this is an album rock channel? I'm stumped.

Area 33:

http://www.sirius.com/area33

"Come to the back room for the sounds of trance and progressive house. It’s the non-stop thump from DJs like Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Armin Van Buuren, StoneBridge, Deep Dish and other pioneers of the next wave of dance.

What we play: Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, David Guetta, StoneBridge, Deep Dish and many more..."

Words like progressive, non-stop, next wave might be pertinent here. Many Sirius channels tie the name to the channel number, 33 in this case.

I never associated Obama with techno music before, so I apologize for missing the Sirius channel 33 reference. Sorry. :-(

If I may damn myself, the candidate-radio pairings that I envision are:

Barack Obama - KOPB
Hillary Clinton - KPOJ
John McCain - KEX
Mitt Romney - KFIS
Mike Huckabee - KKPZ
Ron Paul - KTRO
Mike Jingozian (locally based Libertarian candididate) - KNRK
