Who was it in that last thread "Paul Duckworth - Retires" that said, he won't be able to pull it off! I think it was Rich Johnson. --------------------WMAL Welcomes Paul Duckworth--------------------- ALL ACCESS has confirmed that former CITADEL Talk WMAL-A/WASHINGTON PD PAUL DUCKWORTH's replacement at the station is ... PAUL DUCKWORTH, who is returning from a brief attempt at retirement (he tells ALL ACCESS that he "stunk at it") to take the reins again at the heritage Talker. DUCKWORTH comes back to 'MAL on MARCH 31st.

This is great news for radio. Paul has one of the best programming minds I've met to date. A great teacher with an encouraging style. I only wish I'd been able to learn more from him before he left town. Congrats to WMAL.

My spy on Brandywine St. in NW DC says it's the best news in the building in a long while. They are happy broadcasters.

They should be happy. Duck is a great guy, excellent programmer, and hands out swell birthday presents.

Here's R&R's take on it: -----------------------Duckworth Ducks Back In------------------------- by Mike Stern On December 10, 2007, talking about the announcement that he planned to retire at the end of the year, then Citadel talk WMAL/Washington PD Paul Duckworth told R&R he is "always suspect of any radio guy who says that he's going to retire." Now just 98 days after making that statement, Duckworth is coming out of retirement and returning to his post at WMAL. "Getting into the business can be tough - getting out is much tougher," Duckworth tells R&R now. "My friends were right, I truly am a 'one-dimensional' misfit. There's nothing that does it for me like radio. I'm thrilled to be coming back to WMAL to work with such great broadcasters and great friends. Duckworth's retirement will have lasted exactly 90 days when he returns on March 31.

Paul's a great guy and 'MAL's lucky to get him back. It's been about four years since KVI/Seattle "showed the door" to Paul and you can see just how well they're not doing today.
