With all the new movies coming out on DVD, which ones do you recommend, which ones sucked??? If there is a new movie that blew you away, let us know about it, OR if a new movie sucked, let us know about it so we don't get stuck renting it. First Off, I want to say that the Cohen Brothers are absolute geniuses. If you haven't seen the movie "No Country For old Men" GO RENT IT!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!! This movie is so good and the acting is superior! Now I know why this movie won an acadamy award it rocks. Actor Javien Barden plays an awesome villian. Look out for future movies with Javien Barden, This guy is an amazing actor.

This is a subjective topic but fun nonetheless. I rarely see new movies or movies in general. Guess I'm old school but it is great when one of my favorites makes it onto DVD. Top two favorite movies on my list: "King of Hearts" & "Fried Green Tomato's" I'd be curious to see a show of cyber hands of those who have seen both of those movies.

Seen them both. Mrs. KSKD loves them both. I liked parts of them, but very likely would not have initiated the viewing! Heck, we are doing the video junk food thing, going to watch SG-1, "The Ark of Truth".

I love the Coens and agree that the acting in "No Country" is superb. In fact, for 2/3 of the film I was riveted. Then...it took a left turn where I'm like, "Wha...?" (I'm not going to give details that might spoil the film for those who haven't seen it.) Maybe they were following the book, or maybe it was just the Coens having fun with their audiences. Their films often do take left turns. "There Will Be Blood" is a superb film, but it's a pity to see it on a tiny screen. The photography is spectacular. Daniel Day-Lewis's performance is just mesmerizing. Some people have claimed, remarkably, that they find the film slow. Andrew

My taste in movies over the years has really changed. Heck the number of new movies I watch in a year is probably less than 3. The only series of movies I've had any interest in is Harry Potter. Mainly because my kids and wife totally love them. When the final book was released my daughter and wife were downtown at Powell's waiting in line for 3 hours. Our daughter dressed up like Albus Dumbledore. My wife and I spent turns during that weekend reading the final book aloud. It was a fun time and rather intense. It will make watching the movies that much more enjoyable. But outside of the HP movies I'm pretty much a non-movie watcher.

These are the movies in recent months that I have seen and really enjoyed. I don't go to a movie and or rent a movie if I don't think it won't be worth my time and money. With that said I was not dissapointed with any of the following movies the last one on my list is my favorite movie in a very long time rarely does a movie have you cracking up throughout the movie and in tears at the very end. Note: movies ranked from least favorite to most favorite ie all movies I highly enjoyed and would reccomend to most movie watchers. Cloverfield Paranoid Park Dan In Real Life Into the Wild There Will Be Blood No Country For Old Men Juno

Ditto Roger's "Duck Soup". The Marx Brothers at their best are damned funny. Just streamed "Serenity" last night...pretty good. Makes me want to go back and check out "Firefly" which I understand it is based on. Favorite Western is "The Cowboys". Can't beat the Duke. My All-Time Most Favorite? Probably "North by Northwest". Non-stop entertainment on multiple levels. And women don't look beautiful in movies today like they did in the '50s.

Chickenjuggler, did you know that a feature film is in the works based on "A Fistful of Quarters?" I met the director when he came to open night at Cinema 21 - he said it's in development. Cool film, I agree. I was into the arcade games bigtime when Donkey Kong came out - although I was never that good at them. Wasted a lot of quarters on Pacman, Gorf, and Donkey Kong. Arcade video games actually inspired me to learn how to write computer programs, so it may not have been such a bad investment. Andrew

New DVD releases -- my short reviews 1) "Into The Wild" - Best of the lot. 2) "No Country" - Nuff said. 3) "Michael Clayton" - Up there with the top 3. Others . . . "Things Lost In The Fire" - Not bad, but flawed filmmaking. "Gone Baby Gone" - OK if you can overlook some unbelievable premises. "Dan In Real Life" - Amusing, but forgettable. "King of California" - Less amusing, more forgettable. "Darjeeling Limited" - If it wasn't for the "SUICIDE ATTEMPT" flashing every time Owen Wilson appeared on screen, this would be a pretty good film. As for an "oldie", let me recommend "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang." Far better than all of these movies put together.

My all time favorite movies are: One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest & Apcyolpse Now but only with Coppolla's wife's companion piece docu called Hearts of Darkness. It is almost better than the film itself as it is all about the making of the movie and what a horror it was to finish the film.

Andy, “The Life of Brian" is OK, but between the two I like the Holy Grail better. I think it is more "warped" which I like! Shyguy, I had forgotten about October Sky. I liked that movie as I can relate to it because one of my hobbies is flying high power rockets. I have never seen with Jake Gyllenhaul that has been a dissapointment. He is one of the few young people in Hollywood who truly has a long successful career ahead of him. Whats cool about the movie October Sky is that it is a film that the whole family can sit and watch and enjoy together. No questionable content and it holds the attention of the younger generation as well. I don't know what it is about older films ie black and white films but rarely does an older film hold my attention as it seems all to phony and too much of a "all is well" attitude when I know fully that "all is not well".

No questionable content and it holds the attention of the younger generation as well. Speaking of questionable content- WARNING- don't watch the movie "WALK HARD" with parents or young kids, JUST TRUST ME! There is a lot of nudity including a very long, close up penis shot.It was very embarrassing watching it with my 75 year old grandma. Talk about an uncomfortable situation. Whats interesting is that the movie industry has no problem showing boobs in movies, yet you never see weenies in movies, thats why I was shocked and very embarrassed while watching "walk hard"

I hope your joking TEMPER! I made the mistake of watching this God-awful movie because it was FREE on the On Demand Movies. What an absolute piece of garbage. This movie is so bad it probably killed Lea Thompsons career. At one point in this movie Lea Thompson actually wants to have sex with this duck, and she looks in his wallet and finds a Duck condom" _STUPID! A Kick in the nuts would be much more enjoyable than this repulsive movie. Im surprised George Lucas name was on the credits of this movie. No wonder it hasn't been released on DVD!

Oh boy - here we go again. Of course, my list changes based on what I have stubled on and been reminded of via Comcast. Stranger Than Fiction has now made it to my top 20 of all time. Magnolia is still my #1. Godfather I and II The Shining was a great note Shyguy. I agree. Just about anything with Tim Roth, EDWARD NORTON IS THE MAN!!!, all Kubrick and Lynch films ( Especially Mulholland Drive - DUDE! ). Liked Into The Wild. Quite a bit. The audiobook was mesmerizing. 12 Angry Men is fantastic. Even the recent updated version holds up well. Film I am most looking forward to seeing - Arrested Development - COME ON!

Shyguy: This series can be found on eBay, but not for region 1 (US and Canada)! I had the same problem with "The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin" series, it was region 2 and also in PAL rather than NTSC. I bought a very cheap (and it looks it) Coby #224ss DVD player* and "hacked" it...easy to do. *about $27 at Amazon. 1. Turn on 2. Open the DVD tray 3. Press STOP on the remote. 4. Press 70 5. press MENU 6. Use keypad to enter region code (0=all) Note: make sure there is no DVD in the tray before you perform the steps above. Other model hacks easily found on the web.

If you're planning on renting "into the Wild" skip it, that movie was AWFUL. It could have been an awesome movie but it wasn't, infact I was counting down the minutes for that painful movie to be over. And If I have to hear that stupid Eddie Vedder song"Big Hard sun" I'm going to pull my hair out! It seemed like every 15 minutes that song came blasting on during the movie, WTF, do we really need to hear that song Every 15 minutes?? Another reason why I didn't like that movie was because Sean Penn(the director) had a HUGE man crush on the actor. This movie could have been more homosexual than Brokeback Mountain. If you've seen the movie, you know what Im talking about! Im sure most 15 year old girls LOVE THIS movie, but for everyone else, DON"T RENT IT!
