I just heard on KOIN news that the Portland City Council has ruled that there will be no more staking out your spot with duct tape for the Rose Parade.

I've never been to the parade as I'm not really fond of big crowds so it really doesn't matter to me.

How does everyone else feel about the ruling?

I'm glad because I had planned on going to the route and ripping up every piece of duct tape I saw. If you want the spot, camp out for it.

Hey, I wonder if that's were Merkin is! She's probably already camped out in the most primo spot! I hope she didn't piss off the tribal counsel and wind up buried up to her neck in sand! Wouldn't have to be a very deep hole though!

Speaking of Merkin...

Has she ever divulged the origin of her name?

Why yes there are.

Returning to the topic I never did understand why the city let people do crap like that. Should be first come first serve. I would have liked to have seen some dude years ago put duct tape on a spot in the line waiting for Van Halen tickets and then leave. NO WAY IN HELL he would ever get that spot back! I spent a few overnights in a sleeping bag huddled in front of some store waiting for concert tickets.

It is kind of wierd. A lot like watching my kids try to "own" spots in the house or the car.

First come, first serve is really how it works --spot on Dark!

People should just camp out if they want a specific spot. Tagging this and that, is just lazy --sad lazy that we even have to deal with this.

As long as people have real options, it's the right thing to do. Were there fights over the tagged locations or something that prompted this action, or was it just on the list of "must do" problems for Leonard?

Sometimes I think we never grow up. This is grade school crap.

It's pretty simple as far as I am concerned. Two bodies cannot occupy the same space simultaneously so if my body is occupying that spot first yours won't be able to so move on! This is just silly so I think I will move on now!

How about the city marks spots off, then auctions them off, that should at least pay for the parade.

Or take a page from NO, when they do a parade, have women show their boobs, that ought to attract a lot of tourists.

...as in "down there" under the merkin?

I think my boobs and my merkin are pretty much in the same area! And if I did show 'em, I'm pretty much guaranteed to have the entire BLOCK to myself, no tape needed. I should probably use that duct tape to "lift and separate" other areas. But it really stings when you rip the stuff off.

Oh wait, is "down there" referring to NO/New Orleans?

Sorry!

(I missed you guys the last 2 weeks, I took a break, then had the houseguest from HELL who wouldn't leave this week, and am still catching up!)

DT: I was only buried head-first! Did you read about that kid who died last week when he was playing "sand ninjas" like the TV show, and his buddies actually buried him and he suffocated? (I predict lawsuit)

How could you have missed this from 3 weeks ago?

"Dozens of audience members surrounded her in the lobby to ask for autographs and to take pictures with her. She typically charges $10 to sign and $5 for photos as a way to scratch out a living. She didn't ask for any money on this night, although she joked about it."

If you have to wait in line at the store, I fugure that they owe it to me to provide reading material. Of course, as discussed here previously, this is why none of us ever purchase or take the top copy of any publication or paper in the rack or box.

Right on!

I go to the book store for a lot of reasons. One is the social environment. Hit the coffee section, hang out and chat some. It's a good scene, and the rags are free!

(only fools really buy all the magazines)

I've read substantial portions of books at the store. Sometimes I'll bundle up a few I'm planning to buy, only to end up confused as to which ones really make the cut.

Sitting down and doing some reading normally fixes that problem. Sets the mood, and from there the right purchases are easy.

When I travel, I'll go and read for a while just for the hell of it. Get my coffee, grab a few interesting titles and just learn some stuff.

They will get over it.
