Now is finally the time to proceed with impeachment. Not only of Bush but Cheney most importantly. For gods sake the administration has finally admitted they fully lied to the American public. Maybe now we can finally concentrate on Afhganistan and Iran. Don't stop there though because Saudi Arabi and Pakistan are just as much to blame for 9/11.

When will we learn the many lessons from the many experience our government agencies have had with "Blowback"?

Maybe now we can start to come to acceptance on Iraq now.

Not enough time to impeach fully, but it should start, just to manage expectations going forward.

Impeachment? Even if they started the process today he would be out of office before it was over. Huge waste of time and would backlash against the Demos much like it did to the republicans.

And big deal about being impeached, Clinton was and it didnt affect anything.

There would be an ANOTHER askerisk next to Bush's name in the history books:

* selected
** worst
*** impeached

Not starting impeachment hearings would be akin to finding someone dead by suspicious causes and not investigating it as a possible murder.

Kucinich has already gotten the ball rolling by introducing articles of impeachment against Cheney in the House. The House would be constitutionally remiss to not at least conduct the investigation. Whether anyone is removed from office is secondary; by not at least conducting the investigation, the precedent is set that the conduct of this White House is acceptable. Again, just as if a murder, theft, or other felony crime were left uninvestigated.

As for the Clinton impeachment, it did lay down an important precedent, which was that the House does not find perjury acceptable behavior by a President. In Clinton's particular case, the House accused him of having committed perjury and that, if true, was sufficient grounds to remove him from office. The Senate disagreed with the conclusions of the House, hence Clinton kept his job. But the House set an important bar by their actions.

Backlash how?

Let's consider some reasons then:

-wasting time. Well, with all the obstructionist behavior we are seeing from the GOP, perhaps some incentive to actually get things done would be good? There is also the very real things just not getting done, so might as well do something.

-wasting dollars?

Compared to Iraq? Non starter.

In general? Yep. I think that's probably got legs. Might be managable. Spending dollars to get us on track and get some ACCOUNTABILITY going might do well. Bush is at ~30 something approval right?

-Disrupt the election?

Not sure about this one. Probably a bad idea. The real trouble would be showing some party unity on this and we've enough Bush Democrats walking around for that to be a problem. Don't like it.

Of course that brings up WHY WE ARE NOT HAMMERING McSame on the recently demonstrated Iraq lies...

Maybe it's not such a good idea...

Could do some work to put it together, then publish the whole scenario. Tie it all together, lies, no-bid contracts, relevancy to FISA battle, etc...

For the good of the nation, we are not going to impeach because the OBSTRUCTION and ABUSES of POWER consumed too much time --time we could have better spent getting real work done.

Then, instead of doing the impeachment, just make a call to have people make their voices heard at the ballot box, and encourage them to keep talking through the next cycle.

Basically just air the dirty laundry with recognition of it, the harm it's caused and that it can be fixed very soon.

Ok then here is another scenario. What happens in Jan 09 when Bush n Cheney leave office? Bush most likely goes on to start planning his presidential library and starts to rake in millions as a speaker for hire. Where does that leave Cheney? Does he ride into the sunset in retirement bliss and hopefully dies a slow painfull death? Or does he go back into the private sector helping Halliburton and other US based contractors to rape and pillage other nations in the name of private security and other resources? If he does the latter that is where the satisfaction will likely come from (ie satisfaction that he flubs up and finally gets his ass chapped.)

Where and when does the justice come in this strange and mad world that we live in today? When will the corruption and greed stop?

When will the collective consciensness of our public be awoken and we stand up and say "NO MORE"?

Our society today is so wrapped up in the rat race that not only do we not stop and take a moment to smell the roses we are also oblivous and more so than that could really care less unless its all about ME, ME, ME!

So maybe impeachment is a bad thing but when will both sides realize that sometimes just sometimes its not a bad thing to rock the boat and not tip toe over the eggshells but instead to tromp all over 'em.
