http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap_campaignplus/20080305/ap_ca/on_deadline_clinton Now the gloves will REALLY come off. And whilst Mr. McCain concentrates on building his contributions for November, the left will have two battered candidates. The ongoing democrat war ought to give Mr. McCain plenty of ammunition. Herb

Obama is not battered, Clinton is getting there rapidly. Has nothing to do with her being weak or a woman. It's just the emotional investment she's got into this, conflicts with the feelings most people have about this. This isn't a war Herb. It's a vetting of two very good candidates. Good enough that it takes some time to sort out. Think of all the GOTV efforts that are successful right now. Turnout is through the roof. And young people are voting bigger than usual too. Always a good thing. Most Democratic supporters are perfectly happy with either choice. A lot of them were happy about most of the choices. Was a great field to work with. The only real harm appears to be Clinton. She's gone negative and that's not really all that cool. Her loss more than any of ours though. There is next Congress to consider. I think she will come to that realization fairly quickly. Quicker if Obama holds the high ground like he has. The real upside for the GOP is McCain getting a break. Right now the story is the Democratic decision going on. Big news --big enough to permit McCain a pass, and that's good for him. His self-imposed spending limit is highly likely to take him dark for a while. Best case scenario is the Democratic party taking it's time, keeping the pressure on him light as long as possible so he can make the most of his dollars in the Presidental election season. Should the Democratic decision resolve, then it's back on McCain, and there is a LOT to talk about, and he does not have the SPIN TICKETS necessary to play it all his way. As for contributions, Obama has a very large and growing individual pool of contributors. They are invested now and will be more than happy to continue investing to see him through. He has no public funding limits to deal with either, as he was able to get funded early on, without having to tap the fed. That's not true for McCain. He took a loan on the promise of tapping that system and it's looking to be binding, until the vacant FEC decides otherwise.

"Herb actually is a closet Hillary fan!" No need to be insulting....I'd rather be accused of being a ham-fisted leftist than a Hillary supporter. Actually though, I would go for a McCain-Obama ticket. ABC. Anyone but Clinton. I've modified a quote below by Sir Winston Churchill to give a sense of how I feel: "If [Hillary Clinton] invaded hell I would make at least a favourable reference to the devil in the House of Commons." The GOP should fret about the number of primary voters the Democrats are turning out versus what the GOP is turning out. Regardless of who takes the nomination for the Democrats, they will have the edge purely based on the numbers.

Not after the disgust of the current internecine democrat battle. If Mr. Obama wins, Clinton supporters will feel cheated and many will stay home. Mrs. Clinton will use every trick in her playbook. Obama voters will stay home rather than vote for her. Right now, the democrats are doing Mr. McCain's heavy lifting. Herb

You're wrong Herb. The last thing any Democrat wants is 4 more years of Bush. And with Bush gettng ready to endorse and raise money for McCain, that's exactly what McCain will be selling...4 more years of the same shit Bush has been pedaling. I'm an Obama supporter big time. And I will guarantee you that if Clinton wins the nomination, there is a 100% chance that I will be voting for her. With what's at stake, there's no way I would not vote! Not to mention that should Clinton win this race, it's very likely that Obama will be her running mate.

"Regardless of who takes the nomination for the Democrats, they will have the edge purely based on the numbers." I would love to share your optimism Vit, but history shows that is not true. Especially if a majority of voters are registered and vote for a primary candidate, then the candidate is tossed aside or smeared. If the will of the people is largely ignored in the nomination process, it will effect Hillary in a very negative way. This is not just about the potential that millions and millions of young folks could storm Denver and make 1968 seem like a summer camp. Remember, her husband would never have won the Presidency without black voters. In fact, many of those voters in '92 were registered by volunteers who were trained and coordinated by a hard-working young attorney named Barack Obama. Without grassroots efforts in Illinois, and other places, they would have lost the election to the Shrub. With all of the race baiting, Dixiecrat jargon and her less than stellar record with African-Americans, the DNC should be very very careful. Many blacks felt used during those two cycles, so the party should expect some old resentments to blend with the new ones if this gets stupid. The last primary season that was won under dubious circumstances was the last time super delegates came into play. I hasten to remind all Democrats that another uninspiring quasi-incumbent, Walter Mondale, subverted the system and ran scare ads against a better, younger, more popular and more progressive opponent. That fall, the party was whipped soundly, 49-1. Hillary is a neo-con. One might call her a DINO -- and not just because she is a lumbering dinosaur that is at least a dozen years behind the times. Just like the shrub, she says "mission accomplished" every single time she achieves nothing. I hear McCain needs a running mate. If he wants the headache, he can have her.

Neither am I! We've got two excellent candidates. Best position the Democrats have been in in YEARS. Can't wait to see which one gets the nod. Also can't wait to see how the others all fall into their places. Gonna be a nice ride, I think. All the GOP supporters want it to be a fight so bad they can't see straight. A fight means being divided and some chaos. Those are winning elements for them, seeing as how they regularly win on ignorance. Not this time man. It's a decision! It's a contest to see how good they really are, not to pick the least annoying from an annoying and scary field. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Want Popcorn, maybe candy?
