KUFO has changed their music quite a bit in the last year. They definately have lot more of variety and a much bigger playlist. They also seem to play a lot more of the grunge rock. Driving home today I was a bit shocked to hear Depeshe mode "personal Jesus" On KUFO. I don't mind Depeshe Mode, but hearing them on KUFO sounds really out of place. They don't seem to play the heavier rock that they once played, and are now starting to play somme real Poppy type rock. Last night I heard "all the small things" From Blink 182 on KUFo. Since when does KUFO play Blink 182???? I think they want some of the teenage girls listening to the station.

KUFO is a shell of it's former self. They used to be my favorite radio station about 5 years ago, but every time I tune in, it's either crap music or crap talk.

I listened to KUFO driving up and back from Seattle last weekend, and I must say I was impressed of how the station sounded. The music was well put together, and the jocks who as far as I could tell were LIVE, & sounded like they were energized. KUFO is creating a buzz ( no 105.1 pun intended). Let's see if they can keep it up.

I dunno, I try to listen to the station but everytime I tune in its Marconi and his fake laugh telling us he has been on Portland radio for ten years now. I think he wants some kind of reward or trophy.

He does that about 50 times a day. Just incase we forgot.

Im enjoying KUFO and think Bozyk is doing a good job with the music. Although I have to admit, One band I think that is waaaay overrated and overplaed is the Foo Fighters. All of their music sounds the same, and their new album is not very good. Don't get me wrong, I like the Foo Fighters, but radio overplays them, especially when there are sooo many bands that are just as good, if not better, that are getting very little airplay.

I'm just pissed that they're starting to play HEROIN rock again. That shit is so depressing.... Rock is suppose to be fun!

OMG Trixter... you just reminded me of a Dandy Warhols' song, which starts out: "I never thought you'd be a junkie because heroin is so passe."
And just earlier today I somehow reminded myself of Seven Mary Three's "Cumbersome."
Haven't heard either for quite some time - haven't listened to KUFO much so I don't know if they're playing either.

Listened today on my regular slog up from Eugene to Seattle, and tuned into KUFO from 7am- 3pm. I was impressed! The music sounded fresh, and the jox were for the most part really energizing; the way rock radio is supposed to sound. Consistent, quality programming on weekends is such a rarity these days. Something’s really happening at KUFO. I can’t say the same thing for KNRQ, or even KFLY down in Eugene. Chris Sargent and Al Scott should take heed of what’s going on up north!

Didnt you have almost that exact same post a few days ago in this same topic?

I think you work in sales for the station.

I don't expect KUFO would get much sales action in Eugene. :-)

Speaking of NRQ, I heard one of Aaron the Ultimate Cracker's breaks shortly after midnight, on the topic of the Black Crowes. OK so Maxim's not my rag, but it's great to hear talk about the music, not about other stuff. Makes the music sound better and the highlight of the programming, rather than the talk being the highlight and the songs being not much more than full-length bumper music. (The preceding was my personal opinion as a listener based on my personal radio listening preferences.)

No, I don't work in sales for the station!

Kufo's Bozyk is one of the best jocks I have ever heard. He is informative, always has something interesting to say, his rock reports kicks ass and he is really conversational on air. He doesn't sound like he is reading off a paper like Some jocks do ( I won't mention names) but he is a very solid jock. He also doesn't try to be funny which is really refreshing to hear. Ever hear a jock that is cracking a joke on air or trying to sound funny on air, and you are almost embarrassed for them because they are NOT FUNNY!

You mean marconi?

The only jokes that are funny are the ones he steals from Rick Emerson.

I think he may be one of those other jocks you were talking about that sound like they read everything off paper or try to be funny when they are not.

KUFO sorta has their work cut out for them as music, in my opinion, is shifting a tad. I know, it always does. But given what is out there that is new, I think they are the only station that play a good number of bands with a straight face. I mean, they still have some credibility to me. So when Tool or puts out something new, you always know that it's KUFO that will be on top of it. They do a decent job of playing the classics that are difficult to label as " Tired." My point is thatgiven what they have to showcase, they are doing a decent job.

My opinion on the shift is that there is a trend towards mildly " Indie " stuff. Or at least Indie SOUNDING stuff. KNRK is positioned better to play out that trend. ( Spoon, New REM, even Weezer )

The thing that KUFO has going for them, among other things, is that they have good shows. Or rather, they have decent jocks putting together a better than average presentation. Smells like the 90's, Raw Power Lunch, Corolla. ( Sorry, but I can't include Marconi here. It's just not my bag and honestly, I don't listen to him. I have in the past. I do not any longer. But I'm not gonna beat that dead horse ). They are also hamstrung, just a bit, by the fact that there aren't a lot of remixes for their rock. Although, I have to say, there are some really good ones out there that I own - but I COMPLETELY understand why KUFO wouldn't be hyping remixes of ACDC or White Stripes or Pink Floyd ; It violates a sort of " Purity promise " they have made with the listeners. KNRK has the ability to showcase older stuff presented in a new way. Laptop DJs aren't in short supply. But nor is there a demand for their relative talent at KUFO. Which, in a way, is a good thing for KUFO.

KUFO, to me, is quite clear and confident in who they are. I respect that and believe them to be consistent in a way that counts for me as a listener. They are solid, and relatively speaking, even a bit humble - yet VERY professional. They are lean. And nobody should be confused about the fact that KUFO are the ones to go to for ROCK. And while this Portland scene ( Shins, Spoon, Decemberists, Dandy Warhols ) have their day - KUFO is keeping their toes warm by touching on a few similarly associated bands until either the new breed of rockers get noticed or the older workhorses release their new stuff. ( That's my opinion and I'm sure any of you could say " But Depeche Mode? " And your point wouldn't be lost on me. But I would say " Yeah. Depeche Mode. I get it. I see why it fits today - but it may not tomorrow. And when it no longer fits [ hopefully because there has been something NEW to fill that void ] it's not an ineffective placeholder to use for now. It's got a vibe that fits and if you didn't know it was Depeche Mode, you'd probably let it carry you through the set without a blink ).

I'm certain they have had their share of identity crisis'. But I gotta say, it's been a LONG time since I have wondered why they are playing a particular song or artist. When they play a song or artist that I wouldn't have THOUGHT would fit, they show that it can be done - especially when you listen to them as a whole.

They've still got that " It's cool because we played it " vibe without being pretentious or smug.

I like that in a station.

I have no airchecks though - it's just my opinion.

The end.

KUFO really only has one weak spot and thats Marconi. Cort and Fatboy are funny and entertaining (with the George W Bush boy president thing stolen from comedy central)

I'm not a huge fan of Marconi, but I have to say his sidekick is really funny. Big Jim I believe is his name.

That George W Bush boy president bit is played out. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The music is good, though.
