I was reading an announcer for a Mccain rally, is being criticized for refering to Obama by his entire name. Barek Hussin Obama.

Why is that wrong?

They put the emphasis on the Hussein, trying to compare him with Saddam. Victoria Taft does it every day.

Christine Gregoire prefers Chris.
James Earl Carter prefers Jimmy.
I.Lewis Libby prefers Scooter.
John Ellis Bush prefers Jeb.

If Obama does not like to use his middle name, then the media should respect that and not use it. By referring to someone in a manner that they do not wished to be referred to is inherently disrespectful.

During Gov clintons first term, Hillary insisted on being called Hillary Rodham, no Clinton, some think it cost Bill the Governorship. When he ran again, Hillary used the last name Clinton.

The ONLY reason his middle name is used is to smear him. Same thing with the picture of him wearing a turban. Fear sells on the right, and that's about the only thing they can run on at this point. It just shows how pathetic the GOP truly is, that not only do the leaders think this kind of dirty politics will win, but that they expect their people to actually fall for it!

People have perceptions tied to names. If your buddies wife fixes you up with a woman named Gissle or Gypsie, your gonna probably think, this is great. If she fixes you up with a woman named Mable, your liable to think, "don't I have a dentist appt that night, I have to go to?".

I doubt if any named Hitler could get elected to any office. This is an issue, Obama can only try to ignore. And let the people see hes unique, not associated at all with the other Obama or Hussin.

Like DUHbya's father who was in bed with the Nazi's?? Was that used against DUHbya? Or the fact that DUHbya is just 20 IQ points above retarded?
This is just another underhanded BULLSHIT way the EXTREME RIGHT is pulling any string they can find to SMEAR anyone that doesn't believe in their NARROW MINDED ways that less and less Americans are following.

It is silly to pick on a person for their name. I believe the correct term is childish. As someone with a dozen letters in a last name that is easy to make fun of -- and often confuses many folks about my ancestry -- I sympathize with Obama.

In recent history, focusing on the ethnicity of a candidate has backfired in Presidential elections. Much was made of Kennedy being Irish, and when elected, he did not create a Bureau of Leprechauns. Although one of the funniest campaign ads of 1972 was a thinly disguised slur about his Greek running-mate, Nixon still won be a mile.

Seriously.
Is there really any doubt that the use, and emphasis, on "Barak Husain Obama" is anything other than an appeal to the most ignorant and racist elements of the Republican base?

Last night on Hannity and Colmes, Bill Cunningham, the nutbag radio host from Cincinnati, mentioned "Barack Hussein Obama" 8 times when talking about him.

Yes, there's no question Bush was the supergenius mastermind behind the scheme in which he was able to receive 500,000 FEWER votes than Gore and still manage to win....

I think that if the Republican Party had implied that William Jefferson Clinton was named after Jefferson Davis, rather than Thomas Jefferson, it would have been a similar attack.

For the record, Barack takes his middle name from his father. To pick at it is awful silly since it is as common as Bob, Jim or John in that part of the world.

I was mistaken about it being his father, in fact Barack takes his middle name from his grandfather. This article by Juan Cole examines the roots of Semitic names, and how Obama is one of many proud Americans with roots in ancient culture.

If Clintion had been named after Jefferson Davis, he would have picked up votes in the south. And since he's from Arkansas, he probably is, but doesn't want to admit it.

"His name is William Jefferson Clinton"

Just for the record:
1) Great Great Grandfather - Thomas Jefferson Blythe
2) Grandfather - William Jefferson Blythe
3) Father - William Jefferson Blythe, Jr.
4) William Jefferson Blythe III (later, William Jefferson Clinton)
