Just saw the news segment on Channel 8 news. Men under the age of 40 who talked on their cell phone a lot had a very low sperm count and had a much harder time making a baby! Men who talked very little on a cell phone had a normal sperm count. Cell phone use is to blame for the abnormally low sperm count.

Food for thought!

Not necessaarily, possibly the people that use cell phones a lot, are high stressed workaholics, and that is the cause of the low sperm count. Just because 2 things seem related, doesn't mean they are.

It didn't say everyone that had a cell phone had a low sperm count, just those that used it a lot.

Did the study take into account the location of the phone while in use? If the phone were operated on a belt clip, this might make some sense, but if the phone were operated against the person's ear, then it would seem more unlikely.

There is an extra variable here that is hard to document and nearly impossible to control: the phone handset regulates its power output so as to use the minimum needed to establish a clear link to the tower. If a phone is used with a clear line of sight to and close to the cell tower, the RF exposure will be very low. On the other hand, if the user is far away from the tower, if there are obstructions (terrain, vegetation, buildings, etc.), or if there is interference, then the user will be exposed to more RF.

A similar discussion about microwave exposure a few months ago prompted me to put together a crude microwave field strength meter, tuned to 2.4 GHz. Now that I'm working at a company that has a lot of microwave lab equipment, I was able to optimize my design. So far, I have found that standing too close to a microwave oven is the most likely way that joe blow would get a lot of microwave exposure. I have not yet been able to get the homemade meter to register when approaching a person talking on a cell phone.

Hey, if this is true, then the blow hard, high octane motor mouths will be naturally selected out!

Sweet!

Could it be the microwave energy affects some brain / head glands and signals that impact sperm?

So increased cell phone use by males will solve Herb's main and only issue. Thus forcing him to think about something else.

Cool.
