I'm hoping the existing Obama infrastructure goes to work on this hard.

We can't afford Nader right now.

His, "we are just gonna suck until a third party is let in" crap is getting really old. The way to do the third party is through primary politics.

Challenger after challenger to the two parties to build some support for a Presidency.

He's 73 - older than McCain. And what party will he run with - the "America for Nader" party? The Greens wouldn't have him last time, and I doubt they'll have him this time.

Each election cycle he is less and less of a blip on the radar. And considering he might make the ballot on as much as half the states, I think he will be more of an irritant to the frontrunners than an actual threat.

And the electorate has gotten quite a bit smarter since 2000.

Oh yeah. The majority of people, who were really into the idea of voting Nader, to make a statement, just didn't like the cost.

I seriously doubt that's changed other than said cost being considerably higher now.

One thing's for sure. Ralph Nader matters. If he didn't matter, so many wouldn't be so in love with, or frightened of him.

About Ralph Nader

Ralph Nader is a consumer advocate, lawyer, author, and has been named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 Most Influential Americans in the Twentieth Century.

For over four decades Ralph Nader has exposed problems and organized millions of citizens into more than 100 public interest groups to advocate for solutions.

His efforts have helped to create a framework of laws, regulatory agencies, and federal standards that have improved the quality of life for two generations of Americans.

His groups were instrumental in enacting the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the Safe Drinking Water Act.

In the past decade, Nader has dedicated himself to putting people back in charge of America’s democracy, launching three major presidential campaigns.

Because of Ralph Nader we drive safer cars, eat healthier food, breath better air, drink cleaner water, and work in safer environments.

Naw, but if I had to choose between the two democrat nominees, it would be very easy.

Although were I mainly interested in winning in the Autumn, Mrs. Clinton's high negatives show her to be more beatable on paper. But that's a chance I'm not willing to take.

No, Herb, the numbers indicate Nader no longer matters.

Nader's waning influence no longer should concern anyone.

Besides, this is going to be a landslide victory for the Democratic nominee. Get used to that idea, because the sheer numbers voting in the primary have set the tone.

Hillary needs a miracle, and that miracle is the GOP's only albeit microscopic chance of keeping the White House.

The real battle will be in Congress. If the Dems close the gap in the Senate the GOP will lose its ability to keep blocking progress.

Nader is running on a third party ticet, I doubt if Ron Paul stays in after the convention, he will probably be campaigning for McCain, may be a VP candidate.

It's odd, for someone that trys to champion the things Nader champions, he comes off as having such disdain for people that, for whatever reason, disagree with him. I picture him walking around thinking " If these people were smarter, they'd understand what I was saying. Then they'd see that I am the best candidate."

All the while he never really seems to take into consideration that people DO get him and understand what he is saying. They just disagree on their own merits.

Kind of a flaw, I'd say. That is, if I am even half-way correct about his world and self view. Perhaps I'm not. He feels like he's got an ego and a half on him that blocks him from listening to others.

Yeah - ain't exactly what I want this time around.

You have nothing to worry about. Nader filled a void when those who leaned left had no candidate to be excited about. If Obama is anything, he's exciting. The presence of Obama negates the need for Nader. He's Done before he starts. Cooked. Never gonna be President; not even gonna suck votes away from the Democratic candidate this time.

Nader has more of a chance to spur Democrats to get out and vote so there is NO question, this time, as to what would have happened had he not run.

That whole " Fool me once..." thing.

Good.

I'm just gonna go with that.

Could he impact the GOP then, or maybe just blow a lot of hot air and feel better about himself?

Why he gets the TV time is beyond me. Heck, Ron Paul's got a bigger impact than Nader does. Give him the time. At least I enjoy watching Paul.

Great points, especially by Chickenjuggler.

I believe that Ralph can further help to dispel the myth of 2000 by getting yet another tiny fraction of votes.

On the other hand, since his run only enabled the GOP to create a smokescreen for fraud, his position as a tool must be recognized.

He may be smart, but he is showing a sincere lack of wisdom at this moment in history.

Actually, Nader gives the anti-McClain Republicans another choice. Democrats will not be stupid this time to vote for that jer.
