I'm just waiting for the other Clinton shoe to drop. I don't know what it will be, or even when, but I'm afraid of them pulling some kind of dastardly Clintonesque political move.

However, if they had anything of substance, I have to believe they would have already used it.

She survived what could have been a very ugly scene in New Orleans today. Without a miracle, she will be done by the fifth of March.

IMHO, it's over.

Obama has a million contributors. Clinton has far fewer and they are established. That million really is people powered politics. Something that's very important to me to see.

No brainer, if people want some real change.

It's all about how ugly she is gonna lose. Burn the party, hoping to make it tough, or suck it up and safe face.

If she is smart, she will find a way to get this done and continue on to do good things in the Senate in a very favorable environment.

Might even have a shot at another run.

Play it stupid and go hard, and that's it.

The horror story would be Nader making a lot of noise, trying once again to deny the nation progress to prove whatever point he's out to prove, and Clinton pulling a Rove.

The difference will be in the number of seats gained nation wide. In that scenario, Obama still is very highly likely to win, but the mess will not bring along so many other races.

How that all goes will directly impact just how much change we might actually see.

And I'm sure that's part of what both Clinton and Nader will be about, if they choose to make their noise.

Great points Missing.

Nader was used as a tool, just like Pat Buchanan. They both would be wise to sit this one out.

I think that Clinton would be a great replacement for the generally impotent Reid to lead the Senate.

I also believe that Jim Webb is the very best choice for Vice President on a Democratic ticket.

I don't know about that.

I would favor Dodd in a split second. He stood tall on FISA and that's a really big deal. Maybe Clinton would be good, but I just didn't hear the kinds of good core things from her on the topic that I heard from Dodd.

I like Dodd a great deal too.

Granted, I'm just kicking the ball around, but I think that Jim brings some very important elements to the table. Webb is the son of an Air Force pilot, he and his brother were Marines in Vietnam, and he has a kid in Iraq. He is a patriot who been against this war from the start, but is still a tireless fighter for our men and women in uniform. He would be a true advocate for an exhausted military that needs peace, strong allies in government and a great deal of support when they return. Of course, he is also a pretty darn good Senator with a passion for our Constitution.

Isn't it great to have a discussion and great choices?! Just the fact that we are able to envision a win for the Democratic Party almost makes the last seven years a little less bitter.

All the VP suggestions above have merit.

However, if the Democratic party is at all nervous about losing to McCain, and Obama's race is going to lose them some votes (which unfortunately it will) they will therefore end up running a white male into the VP spot.

Once the White House is back in Democratic hands, I'm sure they can find a worthwhile and productive way to exploit Richardson's abilities.

Judges should legislate exactly how the Constitution was written not by some special interest groups agenda.

No shit.

You can't tell me that a President cannot find a fully qualified human being in America to do what it supposed to be done. I know " what's supposed to be done " is open to interpretation. I know. I know. I know. But we can't find someone who exhibits the ability to be a critical thinker instead of being a puppet to further an agenda?

This, admittedly, is lower down my list of priorities than is should be. But I only have room for so much. So Democrats, if you are listening, put someone on the Court that shows you REALLY care and mean what you say; Unity.

It ain't gonna make everyone happy. But that doesn't mean you ( we ) should cave and just accept the same old formula in appointments; Who is most like ME? WORK at it. Don't be a hypocrite. I hate that.

Sincerely, chickenjuggler

Salem, Oregon.

"Actually Herb, I'm with you. I too hope Obama wins the nomination."

We could do far worse than Mr. Obama, who has many very good qualities.

On the issues however, as a pro-Life, anti-terror, pro-Second Amendment voter, my preference in order is thus:

Mr. Huckabee
Mr. McCain
Mr. Obama

But after the Oscar and Nobel prize, who would even want to be President, let alone a secondary role?

Hillary has been written off too easily. She's like a bad penny, she keeps coming back.
Anyone who dismisses the Clinton's, at least until our new president is sworn in, is woefully ignorant of their machine which specializes in scorched earth policy.

Obama-fans, ignore Mrs. Clinton at your own peril. She is treacherous and will say or do anything.

That said, Mr. Obama's refreshing approach shines light where Hillary Clinton would use slander, lies and outright mud-slinging. Thankfully, she appears to have far less effect with Mr. Obama than anyone else she has targeted. He simply refuses to get down into the mud with her.

In the pro wrestling ring of democrat presidential politics, Mr. Obama is the good guy. Mrs. Clinton is the dastardly one ready to use 'the thumb.'

Everything you say about Hillary is actually what DUHbya and Co. did to McCain and everyone else in 2000. And CONTINUES to do to anyone that stands in their way.
I AGREE 100% that Obama is the good guy and Clinton is bad. But YOUR GUY DUHbya is just as bad if not worse.
Clinton use slander? ROVE and DUHbya used it and still do when someone doesn't agree with them.
IT GOES BOTH WAYS Herb and to see it any other way would be plain ignorant.

It's all just politics as usual.

What's really important to me is that the will of the people be served. In a country so divided under the current leadership, more than half of the country wants a new direction. Mr. McCain embraces too many key issues with a status quo attitude, chiefly the tax cuts for the wealthiest among us and keeping the war machine and the military industrial economy in place.

That's enough to seriously hurt his candidacy even if somehow Hillary pulls a rabbit out of a hat and wins the Democratic nomination.

Those of you that wish to go backwards in time to make a point, that's great, but don't think for a minute that the large majority of those whom vote care about anything but their future.

Just politics as usual.

I think Neil Diamond summarized the The Mike Huckabee campaign:

It's-Love, Brother Love,
Say Brother Love's Travellin' Salvation Show-ow (halle-halle)
Pack up the babies and grab the old ladies
And everyone goes, cause everyone knows, bout' brother Love's show (hallelujah)...
Brothers (halle-hallelujah) I said brothers (hallelujah) Now you've got yourself two good hands (halle-hallelujah), now when your brother is troubled, you've got to reach out your one hand for the ballot- cause that's what it's there for (halle-hallelujah)!

And when your heart is troubled you've got to reach out your other hand (hallelujah), reach it out to the "write in" section... cause that's what IT'S there fore (hale-hallelujah)

C'mon everybody, let's join with Brother Shane and sing the Huckmerican National Anthem. :0)

Herb may be an agitator, a broken record or the symbol of a time gone by, but I think his role is important. As long as different Americans dialog, there is going to be progress. We may never change his mind, but in the process of challenging his positions, we may be achieving something.

This is not to say that I agree with much that he has to say, or that I would defend any of his positions. However, he does -- as do all of us -- have a right to his opinion. I think that any individual enzyme that creates critical thinking on a larger scale is a net positive.

It is important to recognize that the vast majority of folks who read this message board -- and most forums and blogs -- do not join the conversation. So, the question becomes, if someone is eavesdropping on your conversation, what do you want them to hear?

I think that folks have tuned in to this thread for a discussion of super delegates and the vice presidential nominee, so forgive my digression.

If they are still reading, (and some day maybe Dan will let us see stats, because I wanna know our geographical reach) it's outta morbid interest. So they know us by now, and we just need to do what we do and be real.

Win-win helps us and them.
