Lets see, your paying 30,000 for a car, which except for the fuel economy would be worth about 15,000.

You drive 15,000 miles per year. If your car gets 30 mph your fuel cost is about 1500 per year. assuming you use the car for 10 years, you would about break even. But your driving a very cramped car, and I hate to think what would happen if that car was in a wreck.

My savings would be $2,500.00 annually. This is just the first in I am sure what will be an expanding series of fuel efficient autos. Some will undoubtedly be a little more luxurious.

BTW, it's 30,000 for the GT which only get 100mpg. The non-GT is 22,000 and get 150mpg.

The point is that someone is at last developing the technology to move us into the next century and when we get there we will still be able to breathe non-chunky air!

Cool idea, great mileage.

One of two things will happen though.

Either the gas companies will quash it or since it gets roughly 5 times the mileage of current automobiles, the gas companies will raise gas prices by 5X.

I'd love to have a car that got even 1/2 that mileage. 150 MPG is 16+ times better than what my Land Cruiser currently gets!!

Hey, this is a diesel car!

Like the Smart.

What I find significant is not the mileage, and don't get me wrong, those are great numbers, but the fact that it's not gas.

High numbers like that means a real nice nudge toward helping alternative fuels become more viable. More people can consume what little biofuels are being produced right now, and that helps with the chicken and egg problem.

Locally produced and refined fuels could be used with cars like this for a self-sustaining transport econonmy.

Moving things is still gonna cost a lot, so the big rigs will depend on plain old diesel. However, a growing segment of the population can use vehicles like this, making the transition a lot easier over the longer term.

Oil might have peaked, but maybe the really bad effects of that peak can be delayed. If so, that's good.

"After its 2009 release in Europe, the Loremo will be redesigned to reach the North American market the following year."

Yeah, at which time it will be more powerful, and have heavier components to pass North American frontal-crash standards. I doubt it will make much of a dent.
