Washington was too nice for today's politics. Makes you wonder how far this country has fallen in 200 plus years.

Hard to say whether he'd be elected today. Depends who he'd be running against. A better candidate than Kerry surely could have beat Bush in 2004 and even Kerry came very close (in the Electoral College, not in the popular vote). It all came down to Ohio. Had 70,000 Bush voters in Ohio voted for Kerry instead, Kerry would have won the presidency.

It does seem likely, though, that Hurricane Katrina would have wiped out that 70,000 vote margin and more for Kerry.

George Washington was a military hero, like Eisenhower. Of course he was also a slave holder.
Which might hurt him with the black vote today. He also held women shouldn't be allowed to vote, which might also cost him a few votes. But among white males that own property, he would be very popular. And there is the matter of him executing a british major, who wasn't in uniform, might cost him a few voter with the liberals.

You're right Nwokie. Heck, the mere fact that General Washington owned a gun would have lost votes from leftists.

Also he was the Grandfather in Law of Robert E. Lee, and Great Grandfather of Gen Custis Lee, Gen Fitzhough Lee, and Capt Robert E. Lee of the CSA. He grew tobbacco, but then so did Al Gore.

His attack on the Moonshiners, might also cost him a few votes.

Are you a Time Traveller? I'm beginning to think you have some banjo players in your lineage.

Moonshiners? Yeah. They are the swing voters.

And the bit about throwing the dollar across the river, do we really want someone that throws money away? His cutting down the cherry tree would cost him votes with the environmentalists.
