The song rocks and Kudo's for KGON for playing it!

I love it! All the great anecdotes that are shared as the songs come up are half the fun! That staff have all had such a great time in this biz, and the stories they share with us make for great radio, IMHO.

You can tell they're having fun with A-Z, too...nice to break out of the usual and play music that may only see the light of day during "Connect the Classics", "BYOB", or "Album Side Weekends".

Kgon plays the entire spectrum of hits from Zeppelin, not just stairway, you are obviously not listening if you think thats all they play.
While other stations come and go, KGON will be here tell the end.

Bull!

It's the music but mostly the live and telented staff they have over there! Iris, Marty, and Shannon, "The Portland Power Trio". Plus all the behind the scenes people. It's just music without them, they are KGON more than anything!

KGON is ROCK STEADY!

The new Scorpions CD is soooo good, I can't believe its not getting more airplay. The whole album is full of singles, infact its one of those albums that you never skip over a song because the ENTIRE albumm is good!!! Its very seldom that a classic rock type band puts out great NEW material. I think their record company is doing a poor job promoting the album because I didn't even know they had a new album out( Heard it From Dark Temper).
Do record companies not spend money on promoting new albums from Classic Rock type artists?? They should!

I think the band will do fine once they launch the US tour this year with Judas Priest. After all, the band themselves makes the majority of their money from touring and not from royalties from the record labels. IMHO, they don't need the promotion, they will sell out every venue they play in and quickly at that. Would be nice to hear it on the air though in normal rotation. JT.....did I tell you or what??? I feel the same way, no skipped songs on that CD, all the tracks are hit singles by themselves!!!!!
But my four favorites have to be, and in no particular order,
"Love Will Keep Us Alive"
"The Game of Life"
"The Future Never Dies"
and
"Humanity"

Worthy of note:

"New Generation" from Unbreakable really should be on this album as it fit's so well and is an awesome track.

I just hope Humanity Hour 2 comes out soon!!!

As a regular listener I can confirm that the do indeed play classic Scorpions in normal rotation. Also the Scorpions are quite frequent on "Connect the Classics" at noon with Iris. It's just their new music that has slipped into limbo.

So it a classic rock station still if they play new music? Sounds like a rock version of the automated station down the hall.

Anyone remember when back in the 90's they played new Guns and Roses but not the old stuff? I actually won tickets from them to a Seattle show with Metallica.

Im surprised KGON and even KUFo are not giving the new Scorpions album the light of day. Ive been following the Scorpions for YEARS and I can honestly say, this is the best album they have ever put out! If radio ignores this album, than I have given up on radio!
I know Darktemper loves this album, but Id be curious to hear from some other Metal heads on this board like Trixter. Hey Trixter If you've listened to this album, id love to get an honest opinion from you.

Don't quote me on this, but I'll bet you that Clear Channel has banned Classic rock stations from playing any new tracks from the Scorpions New CD, and Rush's new CD.
Whats funny is that you can hear "rock you like a hurricane" a zillion times on Classic rock stations yet they can't play anything new from Rush or the Scorpions because they are too old. Cough (BULLSHIT!)

Bottom line is that I like the new music from these groups and I will listen to it even though that means I am not listening to whatever XYZ station. This is great material from classic groups and I have a feeling that quite a few people feel that way. So pony up and keep your listeners happy with what they want to hear!

Question, Is it the age of the music or the group that makes it classic rock! I submit to you that new material from a classic rock band should still fall under the classic rock label, especially given the quality from Scorpions and Rush, and to not play it is shameful. If the music is good and meets with the station image then I think it should be played. IMHO of course.

I would say that compatible new material by Classic Rock artists generally qualifies as Classic Rock, providing it appeals to most of the target audience. That's where it gets tricky: Would a KGON listener, who isn't overly keen on the Scorpions, accept new material from them to the same degree as one might have accepted a new Stones or Who song 15 years earlier?

OK, is it just me or is KGON playing a slightly improved mix that started right after the last AtoZ program? Seems like a little less of the tired top40 hits and a little wider selection. Maybe those are still there but are getting watered down with new material in rotation. Like I said it could be just me. Anyone else???

You are correct, DT. I think I may be the only person further "out on the bell curve" (as someone else put it) than you: KGON is on from 6AM - 10 PM, roughly, every day in my world. My customers and employees love it.

Let's hope this trend continues: it's nice to hear the wider variety continue beyond A-Z and Connect the Classics!

You know why I think nobody is playing the new Rush and Scorpions tunes, the record labels are not promoting them in favor of these wanna be new artists like Daughtry, Tool, etc. etc. Best new rock album of the year going to an old school rock band may not promote these new young upstarts like they would like. Rush "Snakes and Arrows" and Scorpions "Humanity Hour 1" are easily tops in the Rock category. Now unless you pull a Wal-Mart exclusive and Hype a good but not great album like the Eagles did then I guess you don't get the airtime. Don't get me wrong I like the new Eagles CD but in comparison to thier previous works it just does not measure up like these new CD's from Rush and the Scorpion's. The Scorpion's new CD is easily their finest work to date. You can't replace the classics they put out but this new CD has evolved and adapted to current day with the biting lyrics, awesome guitar riff's and outstanding vocal's.

Classic Rock at it's finest!

IMHO of course.

Have a Great Day!

The music business is just like the movie industry of today. Everyone has to have the same thing or close to it that everyone else has. If record company A has Simple Plan then record company B has to have Sum 41. If record company C has Cobie Caillat record company F has Sara Bareilles. It's endless!!!!!
The Scorpions and Rush don't fit that MIX to the 12-24 crowd that will accept a CD with one hit out of 12 songs. WE would NEVER accept that! When the 80's early 90's groups put out an album 8 of the 10 songs rocked! They put their heart and soul into those albums. Now days you have Jordin Sparks and Daughtry singing songs that 7 song writers sat around at a coffee house thinking about for 6 hours.
The soul is gone.... ALL for profits... And radio is following what the record company's are pushing.

The new Scorpions CD is an album full of hits AND THEY ALL ROCK! The Scorpions put their heart and Soul into "Humanity Hour 1".
I agree with Darktemper, why are the Scorpions not promoting their album more????? I didn't even know they had a new album out.
Its too bad radio is not giving the new Scorps album more airplay.
I think Radio needs the Scorpions more than the Scorpions need radio! (if that makes any sense)

The Scorpions have been around since 1965.
We played them at KVAN in the 70's. No one else in town
was doing anything resembling creative at the time.
Certainly too hard for early KGON or KINK.
Rudolph Schenker, founding member and rhythm guitarist's little brother Michael (see UFO) was the original lead guitarist but left.

How does the new Eagles tune warrant airtime and Rush and Scorpions don't? Oh yah I forgot, a million dollar deal with Wal-Mart. What's the deal? This is great music in the best classic rock style, play it! If a few more classic rock groups came out with more great material like this I'm afraid my TSL would be dramatically less in favor of my MP3 player. If nobody will play it on air then people will just listen off air.

Im surprised KUFO is not playing "hour 1" from the Scorpions, that song is so rockin and totally fits their format.

If this album Came out 10-12 years ago, I guarentee you, Kufo, KGON, and maybe even Z100 would be playing tracks from Their new album. The Last time the Scorpions had a big hit was back in 1990 when "wind of Change" was all over top 40 radio. The Scorpions new album is WAY TOO GOOD for radio to ignore.
Its time for Charlie and KGON to step up to the plate and play more of their new stuff!

You know, maybe in retrospect it's a good thing they do not play it. Let's face it, probably only one track would make the cut and that would be all you would hear. Like you said that Scorp's Album is one hit after another and when I get the urge to listen to it I go from start to finish. Here is a thought though. How about a mid-week special say from 5:00 to 6:00 and call it Wild Card Wednesdays. Anything is fair game so long as it is something not in rotation. New rock from established groups, maybe new album sides or rock blocks, B side classics that are locked up in the no-play vault, all XYZ artist hour, anything goes, DJ's choice. Maybe even a request form on the website for suggestions, no phones though. Insert Plug: "Wild Card Wednesday's, Brought to you by Chinook Winds Casino!"

I saw an interview with The Scorpions, right when Humanity Hour 1 just came out, and they were saying that instead of writing the album themselves, they got some of the best song writers in the country to help them write some of their best material ever! And it shows, the album ROCKS!! They were also saying that even THEY are tired of hearing "rock you like a hurricane" on the radio, and are hoping that stations will start playing THEIR NEW MATERIAL.
Spin Magazine claimed this was the Scorpions best album ever!

Just like Bruce Springsteen, the Scorpions are too old!! That is why they are not getting airplay. BULLSHIT!
