Today, I noticed that 1150 has switched from its CHR "Magia" format to "La Que Buena." This sounds like a Regional Mexican format, much like "La Grande." I can't tell the difference between the two!

It's actually la "Ke Buena".
"La Gran D" finally has a Morning Show that's worth listening to. So does "Ke Buena"
I think these two shows will definitely pull some audience from "El Rey's" mornings, and needless to say; "La X", "La Pantera" and "La Campeona".

But, what is the idea behind the format of "Ke Buena?" I listened for a while today, and they were playing a set of contemporary sounding ballads followed by the more traditional "Sinaloense" style music (what some people think sounds a bit like polka). They had a slogan that went something like "todas buenas" (all good songs), but doesn't every musicradio station try to convince people that they only play good songs?

If they promote the morning show on 1150, they will carve a slice out of the "pie" of Spanish-language radio listenership. It does seem, however, that the size of this pie has stayed pretty constant, despite the addition of new stations.

What does "Ke Buena" mean?

The calls KXMG were originally chosen to reflect "Magia". Do you think they will change now?

Bustos station AM shows on La Gran D and Ke Buena both aren't very good. Especially the La Gran D.

The La Gran D morning guy was #1 in Fresno for several years.
Why do you say they aren't good. Can you elaborate a little on your opinion.

Whats your time frame, 5 or 6 years ago? He isn't that good. NOTHING compelling. Its about compelling radio and he doesn't provide it. Besides he yells alot. Reminds me of some regional mexican bands that stink so they think turning up the volume will make a difference. He is not that good. VERY few on-air talents in Spanish media are good. But that is another story for another time.

They don't claim to play Easy Listening, only "memories". It's the "60s, 70s & More" tag that gets me! I've never heard a 70s song on there and comparatively few 60s!

Yes; the OR at the end of the call sign stands for Oregon. They call the new 1010 "Radio Oregon."

So what's the format?
Adult Standards?
Easy Listening?
Adult Contemporary?
Does anyone know what the hell is going on down there?

Adult Standards most closely describes what I've heard on 1010 AM. It is certainly not Adult Contemporary.

I would say the closest format to this would be when 50s pop stations started playing rock-n-roll. Unfortunately, I don't remember them.

Didn't Sunny 1520 move to 1010 before 1550 picked up the format? Craig?

Yes, the nostalgia format on 1520 did have a brief stint at 1010 shortly after Bustos purchased these two stations. The 1010 format was branded "Sunny 1010," but in my recollection, it was a Bustos-created mix of adult standards, rather than the "Music & Memories" satellite feed that had previously played on 1520.

It is real apparent what they are playing if you listen for a while. I don't know what term you want to call it but it is mostly 50's, with a mix of 40's and some early 60's. As for the 50's, I've heard everything.... from slow ballads to the heavy R&R of those years. From the Paris Sisters to Little Richard. Actually, I'm generally liking the music selections more than other stations right now. I can do without some of those 40's but they are OK occasionally. I hear more "hits" on 1010 than I do when sampling 1550. There are repeats but I keep hearing ones I haven't heard in years. More variety from Roy Orbison than on other stations. Quite a wide variety from Ricky Nelson and others also. Ignoring the stuff between the records, you will hear quite a variety from that era and stuff you won't hear anywhere else. And the sound/tonal quality is better than what it was on the last 910 KKSN. Currently, I find myself listening to 1010 more than others right now. I will probably get tired sometime and move to something else but for now, it is filling a void in this market.

This morning, "Little Saigon Radio," which used to air on KKSL years ago, was playing on 1010. The 1010 incarnation of this program seems to be recorded, as I heard the audio break up at one point and about 30 seconds of the program played again after the breakup. The KKSL version of the show was done live, fed via ISDN from a home studio.

Saturday Morning about 11am I heard some kind of Oriental language talk on 1010. Does anyone now what it was?

What you were hearing was "Little Saigon Radio." It is a Vietnamese language show. I first found out about this show when I was working at Crawford in 2004. At that time, it aired live on KKSL.

Now, I wonder if Sada-E-Watan will ever come back to 1010?

If no one else answers, let's just say that ISDN is a high quality line, a technology that's been in use for well over a decade.

Yes, ISDN is a digital phone line that provides a data rate of 128 kbps. The ISDN audio link is a lot like a telephone in that to start up the link, the people at the Little Saigon studio have to dial the ISDN phone number of the radio station.
