Does anyone recall how KSND sounded when it was a chr station in Eugene in the 80's? I understand there was a good roster of talent at the station during this time period: Bwana, Shakes, Dan Rivers(now Elvis from the on and off again Doghouse)etc.. any airchecks exist?

A post about KSND 93.1 FM, at 9:31 PM. What a coincidence!

KSND sounded pretty hot in the '80s, but didn't play very much Rhythmic material.

Once going from automation to live assist in Jan 1984 they struggled with different CHR variations, personal and ownership changes. KZEL with Dan Clark & Canner was #1 and wasn't toppled until they left and KZEL started playing those silly Starship 'We Built this City' TV spots. At the same time Brian Burns brought in new energy, focused on KZELs weaknesses, hired Dave Shakes, and the sound became more consistent. Burns left for Buffalo, Shakes took over and KSND went to #1 in 1986. By 1988 Shakes left for much greener pastures, and Bawana took over as PD turning KSND HotAC (even through always listed as R&R P-2 CHR)

KMGE was becoming huge and KSNDs HotAC didn't make a dent with Dennis and Storm. Chris Ruh replaced Bawana with excitement, frenzy, and new remixes, but by 1990 the writing was on the wall. Country music was becoming popular and a CHR playing a jingle between Seattle grunge and a country cross-over hit was not the solution. MRB purchased KSND, changed to country and went to #1.

Hell, back in 80-85, we were starting to kick butt with Country...Barrett in the morning, me in mid-days and Bosche in the afternoons on KUGN-FM.
The job search continues, got a couple things in the fire..time will tell. Thanks for the kind words...I'm not done yet!
