New rating are out...KDUK dropped by over half of what they were. KUJZ has run its course going from a 4 to a 1.7. Maybe they will switch to the satellite feed of KPIG from Dial Global. I listen all the time on line, great format and fun to listen to. Can anyone predict or know of any changes of others ??

Looks like Arbitrary needs to update the format list. KUJZ hasn't been smooth jazz in years and KDPM "94.9 Jamz" hasn't been n/t for at least 3 books.

I think KDUK's drop along with Jamz's slight drop has "fluke" written all over it. Even with the target demo migrating to other media, a sudden drop to around three after years of 5-7 doesn't likely happen without major format changes or some kind of scandal.

The formats of both KUJZ "The Moose" and KEHK "Star 102.3" seem like placeholders until the day 97.9 moves out of town. I expected greater things from "Star" than what they are delivering. Right now the are playing Elton John's "Tiny Dancer" (sounding like an 8kbps MP3), hardly "Hot AC" material.

While I like KPIG, the idea of it becoming a generic satellite feed seems to run totally counter to it's original programing concepts -- live, local, in tune with the community, etc.

Arbitron doesn't update its lists! It is the responsibility of each station to submit the correct info each and every quarter, and to verify that the submitted info is correct.

I received an unexpected bonus once at RKO after at a big Arbitron meeting in NY. The head of Arbitron client services put up a list of the 10 largest radio companies, and the percent of their station info packets that were up to date.

RKO was the only one at 100%. (It was my job!) Some of the biggest companies had less than 50%.

Every radio group should have one person whose job depends on making sure that every station in the group is up to date.

"...until the day 97.9 moves out of town."

What? Why would they do that?

They have an application to move to the Portland area (Tualatin)...

http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?list=0&facid=12501

Will a low power (0.260KW) class "A" station in Portland generate more $$$ than as a full (100 KW) class "C" in Eugene ? Any news about action on this?

It was originally for a Class C3 but was downgraded to not interfere with KACI's new application of which KNRQ was unaware, at the time of the first filing. I eventually expect the 2 parties to come to some sort of agreement.

With Bicoastal's 97.7 KACI-FM move, I'm thinking there could be a format flip on the horizon.

Latest observations on the market..
KKNU continues to be very predictable.
KMGE, can't believe they are even continuing with format...format flip ??
KDPM (949 jamz) They seem popular, but can it really last with such a low power.
KUJZ (the Moose) I have noticed in recent weeks they have started playing more of the "oldies" which is nice to hear..Why don't they flip to a classic country ? Seems logical.
KZEL, 30 years of BORING, need I say more
KNRQ, God bless Al Scott, They are all over the board with music. Decide what you wanna do and stick with it & don't copy the competition.
KODZ, mixer of 60's-current, not sure how popular they will be now with Bob & Sheri (boring)
KFLY..Now this is a great station. Older stuff with current..Yes yes yes
KEHK (star 102.3) Like Dennis & Terry (when they are there) John Tesh plays more of what Magic 94 plays...Please just be a true Hot AC and dont cater to the Magic crowd.
KDUK, Well now...I hope it works. Way too much hip hop crap, must be good for the 12-18 year olds
The only thing worth while is Robo and the house party. He sounds like he's having fun.
KEUG (BOB) I just wish they would not speed up the music.

I've heard that the KOPT handoff to OPB will happen tomorrow. Has anybody else heard that? Will prog talk continue elsewhere in Eugene?

There were rumors of 1450 being sold and flipped to AAR, but at least one deal fell through and it's now a longshot.

There is always 620's 25,000 daytime signal.

AM Observations:

KUGN: Talk..its almost good. Would be really good without the guy on after Paul Harvey at Noon.
AM 660: Is the hispanic population big enough to support it ?

KKNX: Its the little AM that could. I see more stickers for this station than any other in town.

KORE: Christian format and a good core audiance.
KPNW: With Dan & Nancy gone I find morning tough to stomach. How is Bi-Coastal to work for ?

KRVM AM: Rebroadcast of KSOR in Ashland.

KSCR: Sports and has no signal..especially at night.

AM 1450: Spanish Sports..how can this thing really survive.

KOPT: Switched from AAR ro State owned OPB. WHy

A few of my observations:

>>KMGE, can't believe they are even continuing with format...format flip ??
Seems like there'd be a bigger market for straight AC. I'm at a loss as to why they aren't doing better. Maybe the residents of Granolaville USA are listening to NPR on KLCC instead.

>>KDPM (949 jamz) ...can it really last with such a low power.
The question is when will someone (anyone in town) with a bigger stick steal their thunder?

>>KUJZ (the Moose)
How long can this non-entity continue?

>>KZEL, 30 years of BORING
Not quite as boring as they used to be with the addition of a few AAA tracks, but ratings are about the same as before the changes.

>>KODZ
The music has been pitched up again.

>>KEHK (star 102.3) ...Please just be a true Hot AC and dont cater to the Magic crowd.
They've tweaked the music mix again. This time it's a "Fresh" approach of AC currents and recurrents. The frequent tweaking will only make things worse without a major outlay of marketing dollars to plug the current format.

>>KEUG (BOB) I just wish they would not speed up the music.
I just wish they'd freshen up the liners more often.

KLOO-FM: A better classic rock/AAA mix than KZEL for those who can hear it above the multipath.

>>AM 660: Is the hispanic population big enough to support it ?
Must be, given Churchill has gone all-Spanish on all their properties after the initial success of "La Eckees."

>>KKNX: Its the little AM that could.
A solid operation for sure, especially for a stand-alone AM. I notice Mielke has added some 50s tunes during some of the optional local breaks instead of taking whatever song the network offers in those 3-minute slots.

>>KRVM AM: Rebroadcast of KSOR in Ashland.
On a noisy POTS line at that.

1450 & 1600: I really find it hard to believe Spanish ESPN with 3 listeners is easier to sell in Granolaville than AAR with a 3 share. I think it's partly an ownership problem.

Re the former KOPT and ESPN Deportes (1450). I exchanged e-mails with Churchill on the switch. They implied that they would not consider taking 1450 from Spanish sports to Air America. Since their other stations are Spanish that makes programming sense. ESPN Deportes got no ratings in the fall book where as KOPT had a 3.1 (12+). That was good enough to rank it as the #3 AM station in the market but they still could not sell it! So, we end up with several NPR/OPB stations in the market and no Air America. Go figure.

I wish KUFO sounded more like Kfly, musically.K-fly is a killer rock station. The music is much better than KUFO.
