I've never heard a bigger load OF BS than an ad claiming to give away free X BOX 360's. All you have to do is type in your e mail address and home address, and a free X BOX 360 will get mailed to your house, AND THATS IT!!

I heard it on a Clear Channel Station, and I almost wanted to call up the management and COMPLAIN!!! This is ridiculous and should not be aired on the radio. Talk about absolute BULLSHIT!

GIMMICK…..If it sounds to good to be true it usually is! That thing will probably wind up costing you tons of time and double the retail prices. It sounds a lot like the old Columbia House music by mail that you could quit anytime but never stopped getting the crap in the mail.

Edit Add:
Heck I just noticed something, guess who is one of their sponsors is, Columbia House, Go Figure!

OH Yah, here is a goody, they need your SSN number so they can report the gift to the IRS so you can be taxed on it. SORRY, no way!

I wonder how many kids will fall hook, line, and sinker for this, spend tons of money to qualify, then never meet all of the requirements or miss the deadline and be left with thousands of dollars in merchandise worth $100 on EBay.

This is the same scam that gets posted then flagged, then posted, then flagged, then posted, then flagged (repeat ad nauseum) on craigslist.

Apparently they're at least getting enough people to fall for it to pay for radio advertisements.

Now, let me get back to reading that e-mail from Nigeria...

I heard this ad on Z100 and had to laugh! Management at Z100 should ban this ad! Columbia House has always been a dirty, slimey Fraudulant company, so this is no surprise that they are behind this.
How the Hell is Columbia House still in business anyway???? I thought that company was long gone!
Rember those newspaper ads that said buy 25 cd's for only a penny? Remember those?

Yep, knew someone back in the eighties that got tied up with that scheme. After he finished his obligatory subscription for the free stuff it took him over a year to get them to stop sending tapes to him. The return window was so tight that if they did not go back pretty much the same day they arrived, you owned them.

Columbia House is no better than these people who are offering interest only home loans. Both should be drawn and quartered!

Wasn't Columbia House a part of Columbia Records?

I would suspect that this is a Google Ad... For those that dont know, Google buys "unused inventory" from group owners at bargain basement prices. Then they resell it to anyone and everyone apparently. most of the ads seem shady and of especially low technical quality.

"Rember those newspaper ads that said buy 25 cd's for only a penny? Remember those?"

Hell, I "rember" the ads where you could still get 10(?) LP RECORDS--yes you read that right--for a penny! Of course, this was in the late 80's-early 90's, when CH was likely trying desperately to get rid of their existing LP stock so they could concentrate on CDs and tapes. My folks used to use CH around that time (figger almost 20 years ago now) and they still get their advertising crap in the mail to this day begging them to re-sign with them.

Ya know, it really doesn't surprise me that they would pull a stunt like this. It seems Columbia House is like termites--you can try and get rid of an infestation but it's hard, and once you do there's no guarantee you'll ever BE rid of it completely..............

(I'll give you a few more seconds on that one......)

Personally I have never joined Columbia House or really any others for that matter.....never felt the need to, really. I figure as long as I have satellite access to at least DMX Music via Galaxy 16, a DVB-recording programme and MP3SPLT both running in Mandrake or even Musix and a CD player, I should be quite content for some time to come (and I usually am.) I further figure, who needs a CD club--or even Apple I-Tunes for that matter--when you already basically have a constant digital MP2 audio file coming to you through the air as it is?

There's also been plenty of advertisements for "free" laptops, where the ads do say that offer completion is required.

A while back, there was this company offering "free" internet - it was anything but, in order to get it, you had to complete an "offer" every month - usually the offers were stuff like CD/DVD clubs (yup, Columbia House), book clubs, credit cards and the like. Someone on a forum once confirmed that in order to successfully complete the credit card offer, you not only had to apply, but your application also had to be accepted by the issuer.

I'm not sure - I've never signed up for any of these and I'm not going to - but I think one of the major components of these "free" (whatever) promotions is you have to successfully get others to join. When they complete their offers, that's when they give you the free (whatever)... assuming the company is still around.

About 40 years ago, I joined a club that had a $5 lifetime membership. They would then send you 3(I think)albums in return with the understanding that you were never obligated to buy anything ever again and I never did. I don't think I ever heard from them after that.

One little known fact about CD clubs is you can ask them to stop the automatic monthly shipments. I did this when joining both BMG and Columbia and my experience with both was generally positive. I eventually let both memberships lapse because they don't carry the weird obscure stuff I mostly listen to these days.

Back in high school/college I fleshed out my CD collection by joining CH/BMG multiple times using different aliases and addresses. $10 for 50 CDs or whatever it was, cancel, and that's it. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Of course by the 3rd time or so I had run out of CDs that I wanted to get, even for almost free.

Sorry Beano, I have never taken those pills, so I can't say if they work or not.

If you have a "you know what" that lasts for more than 8 hours, see your doctor. Or call me. (Just so I can laugh, of course)

Does size matter? Not much more or less than the rack on Pam Anderson or the garage on Jenna Jamieson...:-)

Can that be a conference call? I could use a good laugh, too!
