Here come the Jetson's folks! You knew it was coming, well it'll be here shortly. Well, starting in Europe first anyway.

While Ford was playing with Microsoft and Toys, GM decided to come out with something better. I just hope the OS is MAC and not MicroCrash!

I'm sorry, but NO FREAKING WAY.

It's cool tech, but not something I'm inclined to ever have much to do with.

Maybe someday soon, there will be self-driven taxis and buses? Or, self-driven trains?

There are automated trains in PDX right now: I've seen signs at crossings warning drivers not to stop on tracks they run on, because they won't even attempt to stop. A crossing near SE 11th and Powell comes to mind.

As far as cars...nope, not interested at all!

Jetliners are pretty much fly-by-wire these days.

It doesn't matter if we're interested. In a few generations it will be the norm and you (now a grandpa) will be explaining about the good old days when you had to do all the driving yourself.

Fly by wire, only means there are no cables to the control surfaces. There are now several wires to the control surfaces, that carry electronic signals that control hydraulic motors that move the surfaces.

But airliners and many air force planes can take off fly to their destination and land automatically.

Actually, it has several meanings. One of which is actual buried wires that vehicles (including planes) can track and follow.

I have never heard it mean anything than the use of electronic wires, rather than cables to transmit aircraft control signals.

I grok that Skep, sort of like flying the bird, in heavy traffic loaded with idiot's that thing just pops up automatically.

DT, yeah, just like that!

Nwokie, ever hear of all glass cockpits? It can mean a completely computer controlled plane OR the cockpit is literally all glass (like some helicopters for instance). There is a forklift device that follows a buried wire and automatically raises the load to the right height and location specified -- often called "fly-by-wire". There is a world that exists beyond your skull. Open your mind to it.
