A former U.S. congressman and delegate to the United Nations was indicted Wednesday, accused of being part of a terrorist fundraising ring that allegedly sent more than $130,000 to an al-Qaida and Taliban supporter who has threatened U.S. and international troops in Afghanistan.

The former Republican congressman from Michigan, Mark Deli Siljander, was charged with money laundering, conspiracy and obstructing justice for allegedly lying about lobbying senators on behalf of an Islamic charity that authorities said was secretly sending funds to terrorists.

Mark could have stayed out of a great deal of trouble if he had only followed his true calling. After all, Deli is his middle name.

Let this be a lesson to us all. Ignore the clarion call of pastrami at your own peril!

I notice the neocons haven't commented on this yet.

May be too close to home for them.

If anyone tries to defend it under the umbrella of " I still think it's ok and there was no wrongdoing." then they are an idiot. If, however, it was so removed that there isn't a realistic expectation that they should have known, then I say " lesson learned " and move on. Besides, if there are republicans inadvertantly guilty of it, there are surely Democrats. However unfortunate, I can envision a scenario in which it was just careless instead of negligent...or even sinister.

It was a republican attorney general that oversaw the case, looks like the republicans go after the demos and republicans that break the law.

Yeah, right, if it had been a Democrat, you would be all over him.

You're right. Equally so. That's what I'm saying.

So what? I don't follow.
