Which venue is better for presenting a "talking head" format program (say, one produced by a non-profit organization or club)? Or, is it a good idea to do both? For a few years, I have been producing a podcast that can be accessed from the non-profit's website. Now, some people have been telling me that YouTube is the way to go.

I am not sure that I fully appreciate the pros and cons of each, so please feel free to add to or correct my list:

Podcast pros --
1) Due to ubiquity of MP3 format, podcast can be played on computers, MP3 players, many DVD players, some CD players, and some car stereos.

2) Doing the podcast as an audio-only program allows it to be "consumed" while doing other things (working, driving, etc). This is also more conservative of computing resources.

3) Podcast MP3 files can be hosted amost anywhere, including your own server.

podcast cons--
1) There is no de-facto place that people go to search for podcasts. This means that people have to find out about your organization before they can discover the podcast.

YouTube pros--
1) YouTube has been turning into a de-facto place where people go to search for videos.

YouTube cons--
1) YouTube limits videos to 15 minutes.

2) YouTube is designed to stream videos, rather than allow for downloads. Thus, the viewer has to sit at the computer to consume the program. The program can't be played back on other devices.

3) The future of the videos is at the mercy of the whims of YouTube (i.e.they reserve the right to change their hosting policy in the future).

4) [I'm not sure whether this is really a pro or a con] Even though your program's message is almost entirely in the words, you have to have video for YouTube.

Do a simple slide show, or scrolling video text.

uTube is pretty huge, with people from many demos using the thing. Being at the computer is not really that big of a deal.

Laptops are used for this frequently. As long as you do both, you have few worries about uTube. But there are comments --people might leave bad ones. I suppose that could be a negative, although I seriously wonder how many people give them credence.

Podcasts all the way.

There are serious privacy concerns about YouTube, many of those because they're now owned by Google. Additionally, with podcasts you can have low bandwidth feeds for people on dial-up and those that don't want to expend the bandwidth downloading higher quality audio.
