So where does this take us?

Assume it's true. Soros is just engaging in his brand of spin.

Does that make the war ok? How about the current occupation efforts?

And the lies and manipulations to start the whole thing? Are they ok now too?

Is Soros a real bad guy now? So maybe we should just ignore him then? Does that make the other spinners somehow better, so we can listen to them now?

Tell me what you think this means.

BTW..
Times of London is a Murdoch rag.

Not saying that Soros didn't fund a study, but consider the source.

Isn't this a case of the pot calling the kettle black, again?

Atack the source? That's your argument? Okay, fine. The head of the media company that owns the Times of London has been involved in conservative politics, this is true. This doesn't make the story any less newsworthy.

Missing_kskd,
I just think it's interesting and newsworthy, that's all.

Shane, what's your point? The fact is, more people are dead because of Bush's actions. Whether it's 600K or 150K, it doesn't relieve Bush of his accountability for those that have died needlessly.

That's really where I was at. It's only interesting if it matters some how, and I just don't see that it matters.

"Atack the source? That's your argument?"

Look at the title of this thread, and tell me you don't see the irony of this.

The New England Journal of Medicine estimates that the number of dead is 151,000. That's a much lower number than 650,000. That's a conflict, therefore it's interesting as a topic. Be honest, if I had found a story saying the total may have actually been 2 million dead, and a conservative celebrity had funded the survey that said it was "only" 650,000, I dodn't think I'd see responses here saying "650,00 or 2 million, what's the difference". No, it would be very different. I think some people on this board would make a huge deal out of it if the tables were turned. This is an important story, especially if you qoute figures to try to convince others to see things your way. It's a valid news story.

It is a valid new story, in that 151,000 people have been killed as a result of our actions. We all know that Saddam couldn't have achieved numbers like that even if he tried.

It's an Iraq thing, and given the length of time we've been engaged, money, death, lack of progress, the difference between those two numbers does not carry any impact.

It's still a very bad effort, still attached to the GOP, and still going on.

Really, it is news though. No disagreement there.

It's a conflict too. Agreed.

Seems to me that Soros study came out just prior to the 2006 elections. Oops! That's news too, if the numbers were that wrong.

Most people, upset over ~600K dead, would be upset over 150K dead too. Not sure it had that much of an impact. Lots of dead, is lots of dead, both numbers are too many.

If it did have an impact, and was incorrect, again, oops!

Compared to the crap being pulled by this administration right now, it's extremely minor league. Play dirty pool enough times and you just might get hustled, or thrown out the door.

With anyone else, I would laugh. But I'm sorry, I believe it was posted with a straight face.

You can't make this stuff up? Sure you can. And then it will be cited as proof by Nwokie.

Instant classic, buddy. Well done. You win.

Lest any of the Hobbits get frightened, Soros is from the land of Mount Kékes, not Mount Doom. Do I like rich folks playing with public opinion? Not much. Even if Murdoch is correct, this tragic war is continuing to be a marble-lined pissing match between billionaires. Funny thing, the poor are the only ones fighting it.

Now that the truth about this conflict is clear, it was wrong from the moment the very first American and the very first Iraqi died. Arguing in the press about the height of the stack of bodies is insane. We cannot account for trillions of dollars, so how in the world could we account for all the dead?

The New England Journal of Medicine would do well by not changing tradition at this juncture. When your business is healing the sick and bringing babies into the world, that ought to be job one. While I appreciate their numerical input, nobody would want the New England Journal of Corpse Accounting sitting out in their medical office. It is bad for business.

This just in!
