Here's something you don't see that often. A major FM station shutting down. KOAY "97.5, The Oasis" is licensed to Coalville, Utah with 89,000 watts and 6 booster stations in Salt Lake City, Provo, Ogden, Park City, Bountiful & Sandy. |

Would be interesting to see what lead to their financial struggles...certainly was not because of signal coverage...5 booster stations all on same frequency around metro...but maybe...that might of caused a lot multipath and other problems?! |

What exactly is 'major' about a flamethrower in the middle of nowhere? The primary station transmitter is 42 miles from the nearest point in the Salt Lake valley, and it is behind the Wasatch Front. 3 of the 5 translators are clustered around Ensign Peak with very lower power signals and directional antennas to avoid interference to each other. This is a second-adjacent signal to 97.1FM (a class C operating from Farnsworth Peak). Not to mention 97.1FM is running HD carriers as well. All this in a market that is overloaded with signals. |
