I think Alicia Keys and Amy Winehouse are worthy.

Rush's "Snakes and Arrows" and Velvet Revolver's "Libertad" are my two favorites this year.

I love "stadium Arcadium" By the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. But I think that album came out in late 2006, (not sure)

Snakes and Arrows is, of course, at the top.

Being the metalhead I am too, I just picked up Megadeth's new effort, United Abominations. Very political in nature, it's pretty much a concept album towards how bad the UN has botched the "war on terror" while ignoring other atrocities worldwide ... it goes back into their more thrash beginnings, VERY hard edged ... and I really dig it. I doubt there are many, if any, other metalheads in here, but I strongly suggest this. I like it a LOT.

Thanks, Brianl! I see another trip to the record store in my future...I like Megadeth alot and look forward to hearing this one. I didn't know about this new one. Sometimes I get so locked in to what I already love..."Roll the Bones" is on as we speak. gosh, I love "Ghost of a Chance", esp in my current situation...

Back to the point: Snakes and Arrows, for sure, with the Scorps a close second.

I'm trying to remember the last adult CD's I bought this year: Oh yeah, the soundtrack to "Once" and the Loudin Wainwright III CD (Strange Weirdos) that complimented "Knocked Up" for the end credit song "Daughter".

Feel free to ask me about good music for the toddler set that doesn't make you want to chew your own ears off in the car.

I'm so lame. I DO need to hear the Rush CD, though, to prepare for the upcoming road trip. Since the Dead is, well, dead, I need to find other music to direct my interests towards...I'm intrigued!

Mrs M: I'll be glad to send that S&A to ya if you tell me how :-) ROAD TRIP!!! I can't wait!

Chris: March Fourth is the best live show in town, IMHO! Love their originals, and the combination of talent, showmanship, and interaction with their audience makes a great evening! Trifecta!

Entre_Nous, DT, KSKD and anyone else who is interested ... I just talked to a long lost friend in Seattle and said that Rush will be back through next year (he's a believer, but has never seen them live ... sound familiar DT?!?) ... we NEED to make this roadtrip happen ... w00t

It's from 2004 (most of it recorded in 1997) but I just recently discovered it:

Jean Jacques Perrey's "Eclektronics." Track 1 pretty well sums up most hip hop music.

I'm also liking Portland based The Village Green's 2006 release, and in particular, track 5 of their 2005 self-titled release.

Beano: they will release "Workin' Them Angels" as the next single with the finalized tour dates mid-January. Expect to hear it on KGON, for sure!

Brianl: come see me on the Rush thread...

Chris asked - " How about local acts? What local bands or artists turned your head this year? "

My top two this year were semi-local ( Transplants, I guess ).

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away. I'm a sucker for strong production value. The first time I heard " Phantom Limb " I was pretty sure that was the song of the year for me. I got the see them at a homecoming show at The Crystal and it just solidified how much I like what they do and did in 2007.

Spoon - GaGaGaGaGa. Britt Daniel recently moved to Portland and we're glad to have him. Spoon is a band that runs hot and cold for me. Mostly hot though. Very passionate about his music and has ties to producing other bands that have a certain sound that I respond to. The film " Stranger Than Fiction " featured a bunch of Spoon songs that were well placed and even though it was technically a score ( lyrics removed ) I don't think there has been a better fit between a film and a single band in a very long time. They got some attention. Got to play SNL. Built their fanbase and put out a killer album. Smart stuff.

The " Let me dance with your sister just for the Hell of it " award goes to - The Fratellis - Costello Music. Fun without being a burnout album that could have swayed too far into the played-out ska thing.

I'll be watching a couple in 2008. The Black Angels ( Austin ). Great Lake Swimmers.

And now that The New Pornographers are obviously phasing out Neko Case ( which will make them less enthralling - but attention-worthy ) I want to see what they do in 2008...if anything.

There were albums that failed me and I take it personally, dammit. I didn't like the White Stripes' Icky Thump at all. But at least they primed me for a Led Zep resurgence - as if I needed it. I'll be watching Nine Inch Nails now that Trent can do whatever he wants. Put up or shut up.

I'll be hoping for something strong from Pearl Jam. They deserve to be heard...again.

I'll second that Shins album. I like this one a lot, and it is very well produced.

I like the Cinder Road's new album. It reminds me of all the 80's rock I use to listen to in High School.
