I posted this in another thread, but it fits here better. It (or a version of it) can be attributed to Prime Minister Tony Blair; (http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/blair.asp)

"Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for YOU, Jesus Christ and the American GI.

One died for your soul and the other for your Freedom."

Edit add: Oooops. I read the rest of the Snopes article and apparently Blair never did say the above quote. Sorry. (Still a good quote though!)

"Pour it on em boys, we got those yankees on the run".

Said by Maj Gen Joseh Wheeler, as he led the attack on Spanish positions in Cuba, as commander of the U.S. cavelry forces in Cuba.

Gen Wheeler was prior to being elected to congress a Maj Gen of volunteers in the confederate army.

After the Cuban campaign, he was appointed a Bgen in the regular army. Also Maj Gen Fitzhugh Lee was appointed a Bgen in the regular army. He was also a former maj Gen in the Confederate army, and was Gen Lees nephew.

I'll attempt the Gump quote...Sub "pretty" for "stupid": actions speak louder than words (oops, there's another one), then reverse it. Maybe you're stupid only when your actions prove that to be the case.

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: "I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept His claim to be God." That is the one thing we must not say.

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would be either a lunatic -- on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us.

Are we still talking about the same movie? If you are going to run with my "Miracle on 34th Street" analogy, keep God out if it. It's about a guy believing he is Santa Claus.

And if you think that Jesus is the only person in history that can be granted the title of Great Moral Teacher, then that's some crazy bubble you're living in.

No. The biblical canon is not open for debate, it is a closed entity. A church that adds Thomas to its collection of scriptures would move outside the margins of orthodox Christianity and no well-known denomination has the slightest intention of adding Thomas to its scriptures."

Bobby: I'd like a plain omelet. No potatoes, tomatoes instead. A cup of coffee and wheat toast.

Waitress: No substitutions.

Bobby: What do you mean? You don't have any tomatoes?

Waitress: Only what's on the menu. You can have a number two — a plain omelet. It comes with cottage fries, and rolls.

Bobby: Yea, I know what it comes with, but it's not what I want.

Waitress: Well I'll come back when you make up your mind.

Bobby: Wait a minute, I have made up my mind. I'd like a plain omelet, no potatoes on the plate. A cup of coffee and a side order of wheat toast.

Waitress: I'm sorry, we don't have any side orders of toast. I'll give you an English muffin or a coffee roll.

Bobby: What do you mean "you don't make side orders of toast"? You make sandwiches, don't you?

Waitress: Would you like to talk to the manager?

Bobby: You've got bread. And a toaster of some kind?

Waitress: I don't make the rules.

Bobby: OK, I'll make it as easy for you as I can. I'd like an omelet, plain, and a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast, no mayonnaise, no butter, no lettuce. And a cup of coffee.

Waitress: A number two, chicken sal san. Hold the butter, the lettuce, the mayonnaise, and a cup of coffee. Anything else?

Bobby: Yeah, now all you have to do is hold the chicken, bring me the toast, give me a check for the chicken salad sandwich, and you haven't broken any rules.

Waitress: You want me to hold the chicken, huh?

Bobby: I want you to hold it between your knees."
