Today in the History of Rock....... 1963 Dinah Washington died in Detroit, MI after mixing alcohol and pills. 1963 "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen peaks on the charts at #6. 1968 Aretha Franklin hits #14 with "See Saw". 1969 Leaving On A Jet Plane (Peter, Paul & Mary) was a hit. 1972 For the Roses, Joni Mitchell's first album for David Geffen's new Asylum label, is released. It reaches #11 and "You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio" is a minor hit single. 1972 'Born to Boogie', a documentary filmed by Ringo Starr and starring T. Rex, premiers in London. 1974 'Miles of Aisles', a live double album documenting Joni Mitchell's tour in the wake of 'Court and Spark's' commercial breakthrough, is released. It is recorded during four-night stand in August 1974 and finds her backed by Tom Scott and the L.A. Express. 1985 Peter Gabriel participate in Artists Against Apartheid. 1986 Walk Like An Egyptian (The Bangles) was a hit. 1986 Elton John performs in Sydney, Australia, with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The concert is released as the double album 'Live in Australia' in July 1987. 1994 MTV premieres "MTV Unplugged" with Bob Dylan.
