Here's a guy that wants to enjoy time with others period. Conflict, slamming, getting heated over stuff that's got no real end game is not his thing!

He's is one of the first to call a halt to bad goings on, and toss in some good stuff while he's at it. Practices what he preaches, and that's something we all really need! This fun place would not be so bright or fun, without Darktemper sharing time here.

Darktemper loves his family, is a classic rocker to the core --and I personally thank him for that! Been listening to KGON more often and finding I really do love that music more than I want to admit.

Honest, hard working, social, friendly, and good natured. Those are the first things I think of, when I think about Darktemper. He's good people. The kind of good you hope you end up living next to, work with, or maybe just know and get to hang with, from time to time.

Really glad you are here man! Keep on rocking!

Hear, hear!

He's a blast in person too ... I'll never forget his expression as we exited the Rush concert. He looked like a kid in a candy store, that "OH MY GOD" all over his face ... good times!

Thanks for livening it up in here, and the fantasy league with DT and Mrs. M is a HOOT, the trash talking back and forth.

Keep on keepin' on, DT!

So glad we are keeping this new tradition alive.

When DT and Mrs. M get it going>>>>>>>WHOMP!!! Look out!!

BrianL, I live vicariously through your adventures with DT.

Keep rockin' this message board Dark, it would be very dark without your headlights here.

Yeah, I love reading those three. Kicking myself huge for not finding some way to go to the Rush concert too. (there will be another time, and I'm SO THERE)

I think Mrs. M has been given a run for her money on the trash talking. DT can hand it out, in the best of ways, with the best of them!

This is one reason I don't start it with either of them. I know my ass is cooked before I even get started!

Better to just enjoy the show from the sidelines!

Thanks guys I appreciate the warm & fuzzies.

Missing, you are so right on about me loving my family, they are everything. Then after that also about being a classic rocker.

I think "Rock is in my Blood" and I seriously hope nobody ever gets a transfusion of my blood because it is full of "Heavy Metal"!

There is a little Sammy Fun for ya!

Brian, I will forever associate "Oh My God" with that Rush concert. Shannon was so right on about that. What an awesome concert. And Doug, they are extending the Snakes & Arrows tour into 2008 with 46 additional shows. They won't hit PDX again but watch for something close and maybe we can put together a road trip or something to go to the show. Also, watch for a Scorpions/Judas Priest 90 concert tour next year and you will find me at the closest show to portland. There new album totally "Rocks".

Brian, that was indeed a concert I will forever remember and was great to go with such a huge Rush fan as yourself.

Chris, Thanks for the compliment but when it comes to Whomping Ass and Plonking people around here Mrs. M is like the Yoda of smack. I can run with her at times but she is the true master. It is a real hoot to be in the fantasy football league with her and trade trash talk back and forth, it really makes it fun!

Thanks guys, I really enjoy my TSP here (time spent posting). I can be serious when I need to be but in here I chose to try and walk on the lighter side of things. I always think that life is to short so make the most of everything and every moment and enjoy it. Sometimes my attempts at levity may not be the best timed or placed. I just do not want to get drawn into a fight that has no end to it.

Thanks guys, keep reaching for the sky, where "Eagles Fly"!

And Missing, you need to right that novel!

The first thing that drew me to Darktemper was the name! I always loved reading his posts when lurkin' about. The rare times he calls BS on folks really make me sit up and listen, because it's such a contrast to his usual demeanor.

The ongoing smack between DT and Mrs. M is classic, along with DT "well into his cups" while out of town...LMAO!

DT's post from St. Louis is one of the funniest post I have ever seen. He livens it up in here, that's for sure! Imagine how much duller this place would be without him ... yeah, we have a lot of people who write insightful, thought-provoking stuff, the KSKDs and Chris Taylors of the world ... and Mrs. M keeps us in stitches ... but DT seems to be the master of just coming up with random shit, throwing it on the wall and making us laugh.

COOL!
Merkin is the Plonk Master and I get to be the Random Shit Slinger! I Like It!
You know it takes skill to come up with the oddball shit, you just sling it out there and some times it bounces off and is gone from sight and other times it just sticks and hangs around for a while. Sort of like trying to rebound the old underwear off of the wall and into the hamper, sometimes they bounce right off and go in and out of sight, then other times they just sort of stick to the wall and hang around for a while! It's a crap shoot!

ps. I was so embarrassed the next day after that St Louis thing, I asked a kind hearted gentlemen if he could remove that thread and he did. So for those of you in the know i'm glad I could entertain you that evening!

Yeah, what they said!!!

There was a Rush concert?

I didn't even know he could sing!

All I can say about darktempura is

"Dude"....... (just add proper inflection)

And I mean it with all sincerity.

and since it's not worth another thread, I have been wondering, doesn't something have to be diculous first before it can be RE-diculous?

Great thread everyone! Gosh, even though so much has been said already, I feel one of those big posts coming. Avert your eyes!

I remember seeing the nickname Darktemper and it gave me a bit of a pause. It is such an aggressively eloquent handle that it had to be, without a doubt, one of the coolest people in attendance.

After I got to know you, I realized that you reminded me a great deal of some cool folks I knew in high school. In the 80s, there were a whole lot of silly rootless nicknames bantied about -- preppy and carp come to mind -- but nothing screamed old school like, Rocker.

Sure, one could wax poetic about the archetypes, but growing up in Portland, Rocker was special. Rocker was 82nd on a warm Friday night with Van Halen pouring down like rain from speakers on the roofs of vans. Rocker was the roar of a bright orange Firebird slipping the tail in a cloud of blue smoke.

Rocker was being clever enough to rig up a radio station in your SE Portland basement so that people could hear Metallica from a neighborhood boombox to a longwire in Seaside. Rocker was cooperating when the FCC gave you a friendly desist, and laughing when Z-Rock showed up within months of your shutdown.

I admired the Rockers a great deal, and I still do. They've grown up, had kids, locked into careers and all that, but the Rocker is still inside them. These guys and gals crank the radio alone in the car, headbang, and on a wet Sunday morning when nobody is around, they burn off the line in the family truckster.

So, my hat is off to you John. You are every bit a Rocker. I admire the heckoutta the love and strength you have for your family. I also admire your ability to keep the fires low in this place. I love reading your posts.

Rocker is getting utterly smashed with your friends -- even when they are a thousand miles away. Rocker is waking up and making sure you didn't say anything out of line while you nurse the bass drum with eyebrows that was once your head. That thread was an all-time classic, but I understand wanting it locked safely in meat memory.

You have such a refreshingly pure, unpretentious and infectious soul deep love for music. The past few months, when Iris is on, I always listen for your picks on Connect the Classics and you often have the best ones going. Like Missing, thanks to you, I have found myself drawn back to some great songs.

Finally, if there were one person from this entire forum who could represent "The Listener" -- and be sent as a missionary to megamedia -- my friend, it would have to be you. Whether they will ever admit it or not, I think folks on the other side/inside learn a lot from you. You always tell it like it is from your point of view.

I am really glad I know you DT.

Thanks Dave, I am really gald to know you as well.
There was a time when I lost my faith so to speak. I got busy, got married, and had three wonderful kids. Music seemed to all but vanish for quite some time. Then they got older, one went to college, the other is driving, and I started having a little me time once again. I started buying a CD here and there and then one day it just hit me like driving into a brick wall, I was a born again rocker! You nailed it so well in your post. Just last night while en-route home from Portland by myself (45 minute drive) I queued up Scorpions "Humanity: Hour 1" and the volume was maxxed out. I cannot tell you guys enough just how awesome that album truly is! It is like finding a diamond in the pile of coal that is laughingly called music pumped out by so many mediocre artists of today and over-hyped by the labels. This is true "Classic Rock" at it's very finest! This album, just like the new album from Rush, really stir my soul and are of such quality that I can and do listen over and over and over again and so far have not experienced one iota of "Burn".

You guys and gals are great and I am glad I had the opportunity so meet so many of you and look forward to one day meeting others!

John

OMG, Darktemper, you are spot on about Humanity - Hour 1! Just like the Snakes and Arrows, it's a logical progression that is still recognizable as true to the flavor of the band. I strongly second your recommendation. I wish KGON would bump this up in the rotation: it sooo fits!

If these were albums, you could say "Just drop the needle anywhere!" and back in the day, that was the measure we used, remember?

I too remember the St Louis thread and am guilty of being a bit entertained by it, but no worries, we're all human and mum's the word. DT is one of the valuable pillars here at PDXradio making this place worth a daily visit. :-)

"drop the needle anywhere" --oh yeah! I'm gonna go snag a copy of the new Scorpions work. The RUSH one is already there!

Had an interesting experience this weekend. Was in the local pizza place, ordering a late nighter. Kids, of course, were having some fun closing the place down. You all know the drill. After 10pm, the place is dead, and it's fun time. Crank the tunes and get the closing work done.

I was there waiting, and they played some great Billy Idol. ?!? I played almost the same stuff years ago, working in a pizza place, and said as much.

Their comment was, "nobody makes music like this anymore!" The stuff made today has no groove, no feel, it doesn't get a person going like this music does!

Ages 16 to 24, rocking their pizza place down each weekend. Interesting!

Missing, send the family out on a mission, drop the CD in the stereo, crank the volume, setup the ol' air-drum kit and dive into it! My four fav's off of that CD are "The Game of Life" "The Future Never Dies" "Love Will Keep Us Alive" and of course "Humanity"! Now there's a "Rock Block" sure to raise the volume on most stereo's! But the laser can just land anywhere on that CD and it does not matter, every song on the CD "Rocks"!

My youngest is a rocker. Should have been born in the 70's / 80's. He loves KGON, is an extreme sports / muscle car kind of kid. Fun to be around.

The middle two are not there. Oldest son is black and rock just does not reach him period. (That one song, "Culture of Personality -- Living Color" does. Freaking love that tune too. Where are our black rockers? We need more of that!)

Daughter is bubble-gum, Country kid. Some light rock appeals, but nothing intense. Imogen Heap is gonna get way more play than anything else right now...

(BTW: That's really smart bubble-gum music. Could be worse!)

I'm gonna do the air drum stuff with my son. He's gonna love that!

I don't know! Have to have a listening session to see.

This coming weekend is download and iPod weekend. Every so often, I'll blow some cash on downloads for them. It's a great reward, and does not cost all that much.

(allofmp3.com is coming back folks!)
