The Mrs. and I have long settled into our own chores.

Me: kitchen cleanup (+fridge organization is MINE), bathrooms, vacuuming, the lawn, anything vehicle-related, feed/walk the dog, and haul the garbage cans to the curb.

The Mrs.: Cooking/baking (Kitchen organization is HERS), bedrooms, plants/vegetables/flower beds, anything furniture-related, and recycling.

Joint: Living room, family room, our own laundry, everything else.

Who does what at your house? What's in YOUR job jar?

I get to fix all kinds of stuff! It's the McGyver bit, every week. Cell phone gets dropped in a puddle, take it apart, clean all the bits, and send it out again, and again... Broke the knob on the radio, little wheel falls off the dish washer, untangling anything that can be tangled, you name it, it happens.

Where is the "My First Cell Phone" phone? Whoever makes that will make a million quick.

Homework. When the kids get stuck on ugly stuff, I do the digging for the goods and help them get it done. The Mrs. handles most writing stuff. She's great at focusing right in on what the teachers need to see. If we need that extra push, I'll make it pretty.

Car stuff. Everything but cleaning the car. I've got kids for that. The deal is, I fix stuff, help them with hard stuff and they clean up! Easy Cheezy.

The Mrs. does a lot of the cooking. (well right now, she's still healing, so I've done a lot more of that than I thought I would --had some fun too! Food is fun it seems. Who knew?)

My daughter still in the house, organizes stuff, enforces the common sense rules and gets to slap any and all hands making more work of it. It's excellent to come home to her little face saying, "Dad, can't you clean up after the coffee? I've got all the stuff right here for you next time!"

(and she does too! Paper towels, one folded for the spoon, sugar bowl, creamer in the front of the fridge, filters, the whole deal, placed right there so I can't possibly hose it up.)

Kids in general get the day to day house cleaning. Cat boxes, floors, etc... all theirs.

I build ALL FIRES! Mostly deal with the wood too. Like splitting it --always have.

Older Father in law grows stuff and is in charge of making only the kind of messes older people, trying to do the right thing, but just can't seem to any more, can make! He's also in charge of over feeding animals and grumbling. Makes sure the wine jar is never full either.

My two sons deal with the yard, try to control the TV way too often, and work their asses off avoiding anything house work oriented. I've put my daughter in charge of that, and it just chaps their ass too. Sometimes parenting is fun!

LOL @missing!

I am the Mr. fixit around here to. Anything and everything that can get broke, I fix it. Bob Villa ain't nothing, I could run circles around him and leave him scratching his head in wonder with everything that needs doing around this place.

I do help out inside with whatever I can as well, just prefer doing the fixit stuff though and sometimes may just find one of those old things to do that are on the side burner instead of folding socks!

I do the cooking at my house, Infact I love to cook, it is a good de-stresser. I make a mean bowl of cinnamon Toast crunch. HA!

No but seriously cooking is a lot of fun, especially when you love to eat like I do.

I cook ( wife is SUPPOSED to clean - but a messy kitchen drives me batshit so I'll do it ), wash and fold laundry ( wife puts away ), garbage.

Wife does baths for our son, brushing his teeth, makes beds, picks up my laundry I leave on the floor.

I do heavy lifting. Wife does ALL painting. ( Someday, this summer, I will invite you guys to my house for my birthday party [ Herb, late July - make a note ] and you will see the one room I was allowed to paint and you will see why I no longer am allowed to do that ). I do all electrical work and keep hot tub spices up to proper levels.

I bar b que ( Traeger though - so it's not a chore; It's a button ).

I stay home on days that repairs are being done by someone else ( Cable, Plumbing, etc. ).

Wife does all digging in yard and planting.

My son loves to mop the floor and organize the movie collection. Seems like a fair balance.

I work from home 95% of the time and my wife is home all the time so both of us do the chores around the house. She does most of the laundry and cleans up after the girls. I do 99% of the yard work, vacuum the upstairs clean the bonus room and garage.
My wife is a clean freak so our house is ultra-clean 95% of the time until soccer and volleyball are in full swing and then it's sits for a day or two.
We have 4 1/2 acres over by Imlay Elementary School in Hillsboro so mowing the lawn is my job and it takes about 3-4 hrs including the flood plain when it finally dries out in late July.
Lot's of chores around a 3,500sq ft house so we do our best to help each other out.

I do:

Yard Work: 80%
Laundry: 5%
Cooking: 20%
House Cleaning: 10%
Kitchen Cleaning: 50%
Mechanical repairs: 100%
Household repairs/remodeling: 110%
Painting: 100%

Notes: We have some well-seasoned cast iron cookware, and my wife now highly appreciates cooking with cast iron, but cannot bring herself to wash pans without soap. So I get the job of cleaning the pans (quite easy really once they're seasoned properly)

I share the mowing with my son more and more, so I guess I don't do quite as much there as I listed.

Mechanical work is probably over 100% since I am also rebuilding and restoring my fleet of Edsels. My wife loves the '60 Comet and treats it as her second car, so I pay special attention to keeping it in shape. If I have time this weekend, I'll drop an new engine in it.

I won't even talk about the kitchen remodel that WE decided I should start on this summer...

I hate cleaning the Yugo, so usually what I do is, I tell the girlfriend I'm taking it down and getting it washed. "SAVE YOUR MONEY" she says, but Im too tired, i'll tell her. She than feels bad for me and cleans the Yugo out herself. The only problem is, when she is done cleaning it, it smells like Perfume, roses, feminine type stuff. Im sorry but a Yugo is a mans car and should NEVER smell like flowers.

Hey Merkin, isn't that why you had baby Merkin??

You had her so she could be your maid, while you sit on the couch all day eating bon bon's and watching General Hospital, RIGHT???

Well, yes, but she still isn't fully trained yet; the vacuum is still pretty big for her, and there is still that diaper issue. (Hers, not mine.)

Innie shit and Outtie shit.

That's freaking funny!

For us, all shit is kid shit.

When the kids have all left the nest, I'll do the shit. (I got about 5 years before I'm on shit patrol again.)

"fleet of Edsels."

Fleet? How did you get that by her? I'm having trouble explaining why I need 2 Sciroccos.

I do 95% of the cooking and probably about 50% of the kitchen cleanup.

I also do all the maintenance and occasionally I do "land mine" patrol for the dogs.

The wife does the cat litter box. I just as soon let the cats run off and be Coyote food as clean up the litter box!

The kids keep their own rooms cleaned up (sort of!).

Skep, yeah me too. I can't convince her I need another Land Cruiser! NEED being the key word!

Well, the fleet is down to three right now (one driver, one project, one parts car) plus the '60 Comet which was *supposed* to be an Edsel. Only the parts car is outside right now. A 30x40 5-car shop helps to keep things organized and out of sight so Mrs. Edselehr doesn't get too cranky.

Edseler, yeah, thats what I do too, I hide all the cars and trucks in my shop . . . I'm thinking of double stacking the Sciroccos to make room for the Tahoe I was supposed to sell after buying a 4x4 dump truck :-)

Skybill, on the other hand, if "need" was easily explained, I'd have 7 or 8 Sciroccos now.

I did not build my shop with the intention of adding lifts. Partly because pole barns are costlier the taller you make them, but also because I didn't impose a monstrosity on my neighbors.

My kids are getting to the age that they are thinking about the cars they want to drive when they get their licenses. I had forgotten about the Sciroccos - stylish, sporty, and with that good ol' Wolfsberg engineering. I may be calling you in a couple of years for some VW advice.

I imposed a monstrosity on my neighbors -- my pole barn is 25 ft tall! I have loft above the lower level. But I live on a hill side and the shop is downhill from my (and the neighbor's) houses.

The problem with the 75-81 Sciroccos (and Rabbits) is rust. They started rusting on the boat over here. There are very few rust free vehicles of that era left. It wasn't until the second generation of Sciroccos and Rabbits (Golfs) around 82 did VW get the rust thing figured out again.

However, you can get a pre-82 reasonably priced because they haven't been "discovered" yet. The best part is the parts interchangeability with other VWs -- Golf, Rabbits, Jettas, everything fits. Mid 90's engines, trannies and transaxles just bolt right in. And they're cheap!

The post 81 Sciroccos are not likely to be of much value to collectors.

Drop a chipped TDI into one of those and you'll have a heck of a fast car that gets 50MPG!

I know a guy who put a TDI into a Corrado and that thing is swift!

Yeah, that would be the killer car to have -- its a far better engine than the supercharged things that went in the Corrado. However more than once I thought about putting a diesel in one of the Sciroccos. I might still do it.
