Is KGON running at a lower power? I live in Salem and have noticed more static than normal.

Ya know for the last two weeks or so during lunch i've noticed static as well and i'm in downtown portland. I thought it was just were I park for lunch or the weather change. I wonder if their HD is having any bearing on it.

Odds are good that some sort of tower work is being done and they have to reduce power for a period of time to keep it safe for the climbers. Noonish sounds about right. That stick has a wide variety of clients to coordinate, so it might not even be a KGON issue per se. Perhaps they are relamping or getting things buttoned up for winter. Safety is top priority. The weather will not be cooperating from here on out.

In the immortal words of Steely Dan: FM - No Static At All! You're probably hearing multipath interference. Static is electrical.

Right now, KGON HD is off, so perhaps they are transmitting the analog FM from their Aux antenna, which is normally used for the HD transmitter. However, signal strength appears "normal" from my location.
All other HD's from the site are on at this time.

The KGON HD transmitter (first in Oregon) is off for repairs.

KGON "analog" has not been off the main antenna or been at reduced power for months.

It's a normal fall thing, when everything cools down, for propagation to change.

62kgw:

Here is a list of HD stations in Portland, which includes their HD-2 (and HD-3) offerings:

http://www.ibiquity.com/hd_radio/hdradio_find_a_station/OR/StnMarket/PortlandOR# stationlist

HD-1 digital channel programming is the same as the analog for each station, but in digital clarity.

I don't notice any degradation to the analog reception of a FM station when it adds HD.
