...closely aligns with your current positions on things.

http://glassbooth.org/

I just took this and it looks like Dennis K is my guy. (bummer, was hoping for Edwards) I like this one because it's weighted twice. You get asked to assign weightings based on general issue catagories, then you get to respond to questions linked to the same.

The site sorts those out, then presents a short list for you to consider, and links to their supporting factual information.

It's cool, takes only a minute or two.

Curious to see if anybody aligns with Ron Paul, or Huckabee.

Actually, just realized they post up three that are closest. If you pull down the menu at the upper right, you get to just compare with other candidates. Edwards just missed the mark, aligning with my current positions 79 percent!

Not too shabby, there is hope man!

Hilary = 75

Obama = 75 !?!

Huckabee = 43

Ron Paul = 59 !

Romney = 41

Judy Ruilanni = 39 (I thought this would be about my Ron Paul number actually.)

Mc Cain = 40

Thats assuming you base your decision strictly on issues, there is more to it, its how you feel about the candidate as a person, and how you think the candidate will hold up in an emergency.

Obama = 89%
Richardson = 86%
Gravel = 85% (does this mean I'm nuts like Gravel?)

LOL!!

It means this alignment exercise is maybe broken, or perhaps just too general.

I agree with you Nwokie. Issues are only part of the equation. More importantly, what kind of decisions will a candidate make as president? What kind of people will he or she hire, appoint, nominate? Does each person have the character to be a good president?

Unfortunately, the media rarely explores these crucial issues and we just have to find out what kind of president someone makes after an election.

For better or worse we know the most about Clinton compared to everyone else. Her life has been explored and combed over extensively. There are probably few if any skeletons left in her closet. People may not like what they see when they look at Hillary's personal style (personally, she seems too much like Bush for my tastes) but at least we know what her good qualities are, too - her intelligence and her capacity to care for the plight of others. We don't really know so much, good or bad, about most of the other candidates.

Yep. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be entirely happy with Dennis as President. As much as I like his ideas, his character is just not strong enough where it's gonna count.

Wonder if Hillary is holding some stuff back. Right now she does project a lot of tough, Bush like qualities. Maybe that's to get in, then change things up once there?

I just finished reading Carl Bernstein's book "A Woman in Charge" on Hillary from a few months back - it's quite a good book actually, I highly recommend to everyone, whether you love or hate Hillary. Bernstein (besides proving he's a superior writer to Bob Woodward) is quite fair to Hillary even when printing not-so pleasant things about her (such as her key role in her husband's disastrous first two years in office). Other books about Hillary seem to be more like hit pieces in disguise. I'm sure Hillary isn't happy to see any of them in print but Bernstein at least doesn't seem to have an agenda.

The one disappointing thing about Bernstein's book is that it mostly stops at the end of Bill's presidency. There is virtually nothing - just a half chapter - about her Senate years. It almost seems to have been written in 2001 or 2002 and then held back til she formally announced for president.

Bummer! Those are the important ones.

Also agreed on the hit pieces. I think they are not all going to serve their purpose though. I'm sure they are full of all kinds of dirt, but that's not gonna be the driver this time around.

I get a very clear feeling a lot of people are looking to get away from that. It's cost us a lot, people are tired, wanting to just see some constructive government for a change.

If she can present that face, it's gonna carry a lot of weight. It's true for anybody really.

Dennis K here too.

Lets not forget that in 2000 GW Bush was generally well liked as a person. It means zilch.

I don't care if we get a "cold hearted bitch" as long as she votes my way on the issues.

Bush was likeable but he wasn't the uniter he said he was. I rather vote for Hillary, someone with a senate voting record that I can look at.

Bill Richardson and Dennis Kuchinich were tied at 88% and it steered me to Bill as the winner. Mike Gravel was very close with 83%. No surprise that all three of these leaders come from states that are gorgeous. Apparently, that is not the only thing we have in common.

As far as the rest of the Democratic field goes, John Edwards 82%, Barack Obama was 81%, Christopher Dodd 78%, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton 77%. As the GOP goes, it was Ron Paul 55%, John McCain 54% and Rudy 40%.

Again, a fun exercise, but not taking a measure of the person into the equation leaves the tie-breaker up to the machine. I like both Bill and Dennis. They lack the war chests, and I have already begun to get that feeling in my gut that I am going to have to choose between evils.

That was interesting ... I didn't rank REAL high with any one candidate, as my views are all over the map on both sides ...

Richardson - 70%
Dodd - 69%
Edwards - 68%

I'm a huge Richardson guy, that puts more faith in my belief of the man.
