The survey showed Obama of Illinois with the support of 30% of likely caucus-goers, with Clinton at 26% and North Carolina's Edwards at 22%. The survey of 500 adults likely to vote in Iowa's first-in-the-nation 2008 Democratic presidential caucus on Jan. 3 carries a margin of sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points.

Iowa voters appear to be putting a priority on a change in leadership, which has benefited Obama, the Post said. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed said a "new direction and new ideas" are their top priority, compared with 33% who saw "strength and experience" as the most important factor.

-As I've said before, people are hungry for change, and I think this bodes well for the Democrats in general, and Obama in particular.

It sure is interesting. Watching the traditional media essentially force feed Hilary, then seeing what people are talking about and polling, seems like a disconnect to me.

Right after the first of the year, it's all gonna start!

(got the popcorn bowl primed and ready. Gonna be a heck of a year)

Well, with 4% error rate either way, it could be Clinton 30%, Obama 26%, Edwards 26%. Basically, it's a dead heat in Iowa as I think it has been for a while.

I have a couple of friends headed to Iowa to campaign for Obama in December. I'm really tempted to go, if only to document it - could be interesting.

Its really COLD in Iowa this time of the year. One wonders how that affects campaigners not used to snowbanks?

"Its really COLD in Iowa this time of the year."

So maybe to paraphrase our friend Herb, in this case,

"Now the gloves will really be going ON!"

No kidding!

IMHO, it's time to break out the swag. Edwards '08 hand warmers anyone?

You know, I've always wanted to support Edwards full on for the nomination, but watching the debates I've been dissapointed in him. He is not projecting well. I think he has let a good opportunity slip away a bit.

I agree. I like his ideas the best though. Also there is time yet. He may not be quite as polished as the others are, but he has come right out and stated leadership positions far more than the others have.

That is something I want to see in our next President.

Edwards is coming off as an angry lawyer and I really didn't like it during the last debate. I'm completely turned off by his candidacy at this point.
