It's been over a year, and CBS still isn't willing to invest in a "Movin" morning show. 107.5's format is sounding quite stale, with very few currents. Will "Movin" finally evolve or flip to another format?

Possible moves that might work.

1. Movin should hire young hot to trot college age DJ's and set them free to be "real" on air and develop emotional contact with an audience. This will take time, and the poor launch makes it an uphill battle. A station with no personality is a hard drive filled with music. The name for that in 2007 is:
IPOD.

2. Portland still doesn't have any ROCK Competition. A Classic Hits station with a few solid sounding personalities... Oh wait, they tried that and did it badly. Mix 107-5 Rock Hits of The 80's took a mix nobody wanted (Pat Benatar and Poison?) thrust it on a Madonna/Prince station with an out of town all talk morning show. That was like putting Horseradish on Ice Cream and calling it a Hamburger. Didn't sell well, even in Summer.

KHITS and KOOL are going after the OLDIES crowd, nobody goes after KGON. They are a top biller with no competition. I'm not sure how you do it, maybe Classic Hits with a Rock edge and lose the top 40 approach. Still you will need personalities or you will not be able to take on Heritage.

Therein lies the crux of the problem for our industry. The only formats that get tried are like I-Pods, hard drives filled with music and no real airstaff to engage an audience.

<sigh>

How about a 60s, 70's early 80's that also throws in 1 or 2 per hour new music by the older artists, such as Paul McCartney, Stones, Eagles and other artists of those eras?

What's next for Movin 107-5?

Possible answers...

SNORIN 107-5. Snorin' is Borin'
K-POD 107-5. same as your I-POD except we have commercials.
ZERO 107.5 no calories, no jocks, no content, no relevance.
SLACKER 107.5 your no effort station.

Here's a real idea. Past efforts on this frequency have been on the cheap and a bust.
either:
Turn it off......
or,
put some thought, promotion, effort and passionate people in there and take a shot.

Obviously miimum effort radio is like minimum coverage car insurance, your on, but the coverage sucks if you need to depend on it!

MOVIN sounds beyond bad, that station is an absolute embarrassement to Portland. How much longer can that station stay on the air??? It is truely awful! I feel really bad for Stacey Lynne, the only real talent on that station. Blow the station up and let Stacey go to a decent radio station, a station that ACTUALLY wants to win in the ratings!!!

Portland still doesn't have any ROCK Competition.
This is my *personal* opinion, but since 107.5 and KUFO are owned by the same company (CBS Radio), why would they want to compete with themselves? At the time it was on the air, 970 The Beat was a niche format due to being on AM, even though they played some of the same music as KUFO at the time. This is probably the closest they've ever been to competing with themselves, and that ended back in 1996.

Next up for 107.5 is probably some version of Fresh, a younger skewing K103. I don't think we've seen the last of Rhythmic Hot AC. Apparently, its time hasn't come yet but I think it will eventually.

It is an amazing situation. How can the big corporation afford to just leave the dollars on the table, that they could have made with a supported FM station?

No money to support anything. The only options are quick fixes and format of the month.
