This certainly is sad news, but thank you Craig for posting it.

I used to listen to Carl back when he did nights at KGY and I was cleaning up the meat shop in Tumwater. I was also learning radio at the time, so I would listen intently. As a jock, Carl was a one-of-a-kind with a voice and delivery almost too smooth for words. Very real, very talented. He did his own thing and it worked.

I never got to work with him, but I am proud (?) to say I may have lost a gig to him! In spring 1986, I was in talks with KQEU about a midday opening. It was looking pretty good, then Carl decided that this would be a good time to leave KGY, and, well, I would have hired him too.

I was involved with KQEU when we hired him for the station, realizing it was a major coup to attract him away from KGY. Carl and I used to talk a lot about photography whenever I was in town. Just the other day I was looking at one of the photos of wolves he had given me as a gift.

Carl was truly a multi-talented person.
