http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,307947,00.html (Yep, FOXnews.) Since the GOP grumbled quite a bit re: Hillary' dubious donation from Hsu (that she later returned), one wonders about the GOP's current dilemma with Fred Thompson's top staffer being a felon. "Still a good friend" Thompson says, but still, keeping the thug on staff takes ammo away from the GOP to use on Hillary. Me thinks Thompson is finished in politics.

Aw, I hope Thompson sticks around a while longer - he adds some color to the group! But he's obviously got no shot at the nomination. I think seeing Thompson in a debate setting shows how different he is from a character he's playing on TV. Andrew

"Martin posted a guilty plea in 1979 for selling 11 pounds of marijuana and... ...a no contest plea in 1983 for cocaine trafficking and conspiracy. The 1983 charges, along with a felony bookmaking charge, came while he was still serving that probation." Weed broker, blow dealer and bookie all "rolled" into one. No jail time. (You'd think a "good friend" would tell you this before you hired him. Even if it was 25 years ago. Duh.) As Herrbocrite likes to say, "You can't make this stuff up".

Of course. Character matters not, as long as the ends justify the means.

Breaking news: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,308240,00.html The thug quits. Branch can't use the jet anymore. But he says: ". . . none of the donations were improper, and the campaign has made no indication that it will return any of the money raised by Martin."
