It's a sad commentary on the American public's gullability for another mushroom-cloud sales pitch by this administration. The author even admits it's all about fear rather than facts. If that's the bandwagon you want to be on Herb, then enjoy the ride.

Edselehr-This is from FRANK RICH, NY Times columnist who's a darling of the left. For once he got it right. Throw him under the bus if you wish, but he's spot on.

How long did it take you to come up with "Flummoxed"?

"FRANK RICH, NY Times columnist who's a darling of the left"

Don't care. It's a fear play, nothing more, nothing less.

As such, it can be largely ignored.

A compelling story makes for a classic piece of journalism. A fearful story makes for derivative pulp trifle. I do not take the Times nearly as seriously as some folks, so I remain resolute, unafraid, and as always, an American who votes on more than rhetoric.

In the real world, you are either hard nosed and factual, or your mission has boiled slowly down to simply selling newspapers. The only "darling" journalists I have ever seen were in the movies or on television. Most of them do not throw their hat in the air on Nicollet Avenue.

Edselehr, I think "mushroom-cloud sales pitch" is a brilliant appraisal.

I usually cannot stand Frank Rich's leftist drivel. However, there is a sea change in his writing and liberals better take note. He's a socialist, but not stupid.

When he writes something rational, it will be worth consideration.

This isn't rational, given the body of facts at hand.

Sorry.

AOK,

When you read "flummoxed" on the thread title, wasn't it obvious who started it?

I just followed Skep's advice, read Edsel's, LS's and MK's comments and figured why waste time reading it? There's only one person (OK, 3) people who usually is/are in a state of "flummox" around here.

I think the TV ads recommend calling a doctor if you're stuck that way for more than 8 hours.

Fine.

The left is intimidated by literate repartee.

Duly noted.

Actually, "the left" does not refer to anything but some internal construct of yours Herb.

"Ham-fist" qualifies as " literate repartee"?

Pardon me whilst I honourably vomit in your general direction.

Good distance Merkin. Thankfully, I am in a null on the coverage map. The cobb salad and root beer was a nice contrast to the shrimp cocktail. A shame to waste the spumoni, but when you feel better, I think there is still some left in the freezer.

Great question!

In January, many people set their surplus holiday fruitcakes at the curb to be recycled. After technicians remove the valuable parts, the delectable salvaged bits are whipped into a frozen treat with ice cream.

The remaining husk is often shredded and used for filling in Chinese made plush toys and life preservers. It is also used in basketball shoes for a little extra bounce, and a few brands of industrial strength work boots for cushioning.

In the last few decades, recycled fruitcakes have also been used as the foundation for a relatively basic form of artificial intelligence. Thanks to a partnership between industry and government, fruitcakes currently occupy important positions in many different fields.

Once the supply of retired cakes runs out for the season, the machines are converted to produce Neapolitan through summer. They turn out the tricolored delight until they are needed for a short run of egg nog ice cream. Then, the miracle of spumoni happens all over again.

Ah, the cycle of life. I hope this answers your question, Missus Merkin of Portland, Oregon. :0)

I think the fresh Depends® that I just ruined uses that same fluffy shredded husk. I thought that smell was eerily familiar. Now I know.

I do have a question: How do the technicians actually lift the fruitcakes from the curb? They seem to arrive under the cover of darkness, ala the Toothfairy. Or the seldom-seem Jackalope.

If I were Queen, eggnog, pumpkin, and Spumoni ice cream would be available year-round, everywhere. My-Tee-Fine Ice Milk would be outlawed. You hear that, Gramma? I'm talkin' to YOU! (And to that carton that has been in your freezer since 1973.)
