Glad you enjoyed it, I had a blast doing it. I've kept the music log for reference next year, if we do it again. The song You're talking about was likely "As The Years Go By" by Mashmakhan.

Brad Dolbeer, K-Hits APD programmed the placement of music after my input and Brad added additional great songs I'd forgotten about. He picked "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" by Iron Butterfly as the best to end the show, "Witch" I thought was an excellent choice.

John Hugill wrote & produced all the sweepers as well as the 60 second promo that ran before the show, so it was a K-Hits team effort.

If there's anyone else wanting to know a name of a song played last night, I might be able to figure it out from the log, if you can give me a time period.

Cool.......kinda odd, really, because I just bought the CD of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" at Border's yesterday afternoon!

(Wish I had been listening to 106 last night to hear it but no, I was listening to the DMX disc they had playing at work instead...............)

Personally, I think IAGDV is an excellent choice to end ANY programme, provided you have enough air time/disc space. ;o)

I still have the Dark Shadows theme stuck in my head. (My sister was a big fan of that show.) I don't suppose K-Hits has a copy of "Quentin's Theme" by the Charles Randolph Grean Sounde.

Any fan of northwest music worth their salt has that album, or the CD re-release.

I only have "The Witch" on an LP and our turntable is down at the moment, so it was not played. It'll have to be on our next adventure into Spooky music.

"Quentin's Theme" came from the TV series "Dark Shadows" but was not the theme song. The theme was called "The Barnabas Theme". I played the TV soundtrack theme which runs 1:08.

It wasn't a segment within the hour. The show was a five hour music program. "Bad Moon Rising", "Black Magic Woman" that kind of stuff, interwoven with the standards like "The Purple People Eater".

As I said in another thread, it was great radio. I bet that Brad Dolbeer was a good partner in the music research. Iron Butterfly had to end the show and The Fifth Estate was awesome too.

I loved John Hugill's spots. I wish I had plucked a recording of the funny promo when it ran last week.

It is hard to believe you guys pulled it off without any vinyl. Some things are still impossible to find on any other format and it had to present quite a challenge.

I'm glad I saved the first one for posterity and I bet next year is even more ghoulish! In a good way, of course.

(The Sonics rock. I picked up Boom! for a couple bucks in the mid 80s. Boy, you sure can't do that anymore.)

Yes! I was thinking the same thing earlier in the month. Brad has, dare I say "decades" in AOR music. Between the two of us, we did our best to cover all the bases.

Everything I said on the 60 second promo was written by John Hugill. He had already recorded all the other bits and pieces. He told me how to voice each of my six bits, having planned the whole thing at his home studio. My voice was then sent to his home over land lines and then back to his portable unit which he had set up in the K-Hits meeting room. Then John just put it all together right in front of me! It's incredible what can be done today without a studio in post production.

I'm not usually involved in this area of radio so seeing this just knocked me over. He did such a great job, I had a copy burned on CD. I thought the Tommy Chong "Hey I'd shake your hand but I'm covered in pumpkin guts" was hilarious, John Hugill writing at its best!

Remember on Darkshadows Quinton was the werewolf, Barnabas was the vampire. I liked that old show,at least for about 2 years, then it got really weird.

Ok now back to music, are we going to hear Arlo Guthries, "You can get anything you want at Alice's restaurant" on thanksgiving, if so what time.

Sirius channel 14 or 16 will play it continuously for the whole day! Or at least they have for the last 2 Thanksgivings.

I'm sure KGON will play it too. I think they usually play it about noon or 1:00PM.

Great tune! One of my all time favorites!

Next time someone asks you; "What did you get?"

Reply; "I didn't get nothing. I had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage." and watch the strange looks they give you!!!

I think it was KINK as well. Is there anyone who can confirm when was it first played locally on Thanksgiving? We could have been among the first cities to have done it.

According to an article about the real Alice Brock:

"WXRT, in Chicago, has broadcast it every Thanksgiving for 33 years."

I'm glad that many stations still do it every year. I love this tradition!

Speaking of holiday traditions, if you missed the Spooktacular, I posted my recording on Divshare:

I think it's been a Thanksgiving tradition at many radio stations since the release of the song in 1967 which was 7 years before KGON was launched. I remember hearing it on KLRB or KRML in Carmel in the late 60's. It's just a good radio tradition for everyone.

Finally remembered to ask if we'll will be playing Arlo Guthie's "Alice's Restaurant". Yes, I'll be playing it Thanksgiving night but it should played two other times on K-Hits before me.
