I have heard that Janine Wolf is no longer part of the airstaff at KOOL. Since the remaining airstaff has yet to make an appearance, letting such an amazing talent go is just crazy.

Apparently there's only one key to the control room, and they needed it so that John Williams could eventually get in the building and on the air.

I hope CBS/K-Hits realizes what a great opportunity they've been handed.

Many good radio people are being let go around the country, not just CC either. It's all about improving the bottom line. As the bottom line improves with layoffs the listener base keeps declining. Most notably with the 12 to 34 audience. Too many alternatives. There are some obvious opportunities here right now. In this agency office we're thinking the local managers do not have the power to program to the available audience. Because of that, more and more of our advertising dollars are being channeled elsewhere.
Janine and the other recently departed will hopefully be part of a rejuvenation and soon. Radio really could use a few leaders right now.

Gale, That has been my major theme for years. My voice falls on deaf ears. Now, for market managers to hear it directly from those who control the spending would carry more weight. Let them know WHY the dollars flow elsewhere. Hearing it from the programming side carries no weight. Air talent can't possibly know what the hell is up on the business side despite education and experience in the sales world. Voices from the $$$ side will open some eyes.

Done by the book sales, done behind the mic.

PREFER the interaction, creativity, and flexibility of "entertaining" an audience. People who are all about the dollar can't understand that.

Leaders will never come from the mic side, but by putting the hustlebucks in charge is an equal imbalance. Companies that only chase the bottom line usually wind up with an average product in a sea of average products. The consumer choice becomes one of ease rather than preference.

Without boring the readers with details, I'll stop here.

Hope J.W. isn't out, but if so I would think it is over the actual direction of the plan rather than the concept.

Just like KSTE-FM, KRVO and KIJZ, KQOL is doomed!

Even Terry Danner realizes that Kool is going to be a POS station. K-hits should have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT because its Crystal Clear that Cheap Channel is putting very little effort into Kool 1059.

On another note it is also apparent that Cheap Channel Does not care about listeners. Bruce Springsteen has the number one album in the country yet Cheap Channel refuses to play his new single!

No, Terry Danner doesn't realize that. She thinks any station with John Williams in the morning and a tight, focused playlist will beat a station that's gone too wide/deep for the sake of "variety."

I think Terry Danner's experience and instincts on these issues are worth paying attention to.

I wonder if Terry Danner has any perspective on why Janine Wolf would be added then dropped in this manner? And does Terry Danner know if Janine will be replaced, or they are simply thinning out the on-air staff already? If only Terry Danner were here...

Perhaps Terry Danner has a life and doesn't feel the need to monitor this forum all hours of the day looking for a chance to respond about everything.

Terry Danner is barely informed, but suspects that things which local management thought would occur may now be in limbo or worse, since the private equity takeover of Clear Channel was approved.

Private equity groups do not buy companies because they think they can make LESS money owning the company. They think they can make even greater profits once the company is freed from the need to be responsive to shareholders.

Janine was the last live voice left over from the 105.9 smooth jazz days. While both her market history and delivery would have been a perfect fit on KOOL, there was undoubtedly no place in the budget for a live midday position.

Why is it that K-hits can have a full LIVE airstaff, have really cool on air promotions, do Live broadcasts, yet Kool can't even afford a live air talent. I jut don't get Cheap Channel! It is so Pathetic!
Terry Danner, how many more formats does 105.9 have to go through?? They are not willing to spend any money on 1059, yet the format changes every couple of years. Why not spend a little money on a station and have it be around for another 10 years instead of having a format change every 2 years. How is 105.9 Every going to get listeners when the format changes ever few years??? Nobody knows what to expect on that station so nobody will be listening.

Uhhhh kids ... Scott Thom and John Williams were live on Friday 11/2. Back in the day there was Super62, KISN AM and KPAM FM in the Portland market; KORI FM and KBZY in the Salem market and KBDF rocking away in the Eugene market. I'm thinking having two competing "oldies" formats back in Portland is going to make for some fun listening.

Will Kool even be competition for K-hits??? With Mark Lindsey's Cafe, K-hits neat promotions and contests I don't think Kool will stand much of a chance. As much as you and I love oldies, I think Portland can only tolerate one oldies station. K-hits seems to have a bigger budget and a full live air talent. Cheap Channel Never spends any money on their stations. And looking back on 105.9, the previous track record doesn't look very good! Cheap Channel will have to invest some money into Kool or else they will clobbered by K-hits!

I hear AM and PM drive, no DJs so far.

I think KQOLs main threat to KHITS is that they are an alternate station to button-push to when KHITS plays something you don't like or are tired of hearing, say, Billy Joel or Paul Simon. :-0

Just noticing my own listening habits. KHITS has the best music programming, but KQOL IS where you go when you need a break. It will be interesting to see just what that percentage of use is for most of the audience when the next ARB arrives.

Hey it's kinda unusual to have 2 stations head-to-head these days! We are blessed!

I just heard Scott Tom a few minutes ago on 105-9. Almost sounds like the live shifts might've just started.

And right up and down the dial from each other! Also, on a decent radio in much of the metro area, you get 106-3 KLOO-FM right smack dab in the middle of them.

It's been a difficult, stressful and frankly, bizarre month at CC Portland. I'm sure even chain-wide...

However, I am extremely happy to report that Janine Wolf is KOOL once again!! Starting next week (date not determined) she will be the cohost of KOOL Mornings with John Williams.

Welcome back, Janine! It was less than two weeks, but you were sorely missed.
