This is a piece that is circulating around the internet this week, thought you might like to see it!

Duffy Had a ‘Great Run’ . “I’ve had a great run,” Pat Duffy said by phone yesterday, the morning after ending at 17-year-run with CBS Radio (Viacom/Infinity). The former general manager of the two all-News stations, KFWB and KNX, was in good spirits as he reflected on the news that his job had been eliminated on Monday as part of a CBS Radio reorganization and consolidation.

“I’m not sad about this ending,” said Pat, as he reflected on the changing radio environment. “Radio just isn’t as good as it used to be. It was good timing and I’m being taken care of. It worked out fine for me. I got to Infinity at the right time and did very well with the options and had a great run there.”

Pat spent 18 years at KABC and 17 years with KRTH and KNX/KFWB. What’s next for him? “I’m in no hurry to do anything. I put myself through college and worked all the way through USC and paid my own tuition. I was at KABC at the right time and Infinity at the right time and I’ve been able to capitalize on that and have some fun along the way. Recently it wasn’t starting to be fun anymore.” s for his future, Pat concluded with: “I’m looking forward to the ski season this year.”

Bradford Exits. There are other changes happening within the local CBS Radio cluster. Ronnie Bradford, veteran KNX assistant program director, has left the all-News station after almost four decades. Many listeners first met the well-liked Bradford in early 2005 when Ronnie and former KNX afternoon drive anchor Dave Zorn returned to Vietnam. (Ronnie Bradford (l) with Dave Zorn accepting a Golden Mic for their 2005 documentary, “40 Years from Vietnam” which also won a Los Angeles Press Club award for Best Documentary.)

The bodies continue to drop at KNX. One veteran observer said the shrinking all-News outlet is the most dangerous place to maintain a career in Los Angeles radio. Bradford who served the station continuously from the birth of the CBS-owned stations’ all-News format in 1968 in a wide variety of positions including assignment editor, producer, executive news producer acting news director and, until Tuesday, assistant news director joins Pat Duffy, Jim Schweda, Tom Hatten, Chris Stanley, production ace Raul Moreno and KNX Business Hour producer Leyla Gulen – all dismissed since summer.

When pd David G. Hall assembled the KNX staff yesterday afternoon to make the announcement about Bradford's departure, one observer said that Hall appeared to be 'visibly-shaken.' Hall also took the opportunity to assure those still around that the blood-letting had stopped. Hall announced that new gm Jeff Federman will meet with KNX staffers Thursday morning.

An email followed from David G. Hall:

“I am very sad to have to tell you that Ronnie Bradford has left KNX. The position of assistant news director has been eliminated as part of the recent restructuring within our cluster.

Ronnie Bradford walked into Columbia Square on June 17th, 1968. His contribution to KNX cannot be measured, and can barely be imagined. As you would expect of him, Ronnie was very clear that he wanted his exit to be as quiet as possible and does not want any kind of get together. Please join us in wishing Ronnie all the best.

In the meantime, Julie [Chin, KNX news director] will be announcing shortly how we'll manage the schedule and timecards going forward.”

Another KNX staffer was sad about Ronnie's departure. "Bradford was the glue that held KNX together. He filled in between news directors, took over the mundane job of checking time-sheets when the station’s coordinator was laid off, and took care of a zillion essential details from making sure KNX had prime seats for high-profile courtroom cases to getting LAPD credentials for his station’s reporters.

KNX management may be faced with an internal crisis VERY soon. The Writers Guild contract deadline is tonight at midnight. Will KNX’s WGA writers who’ve gone without a contract or a raise for three years walk out?
